YOU CAN'T BUY IT - YOU EARN IT

Have you ever been told you are so good at doing something before? Or maybe you have been told of how unique and interesting you are? Well, I can't say if you've been told any of these things but then I can surely speak for myself. Telling someone anything nice and sweet can be referred to as a compliment and if anyone tells you something that makes you feel happy and honored, those are compliments.

So like I was saying, I have received a lot of compliments in my life, both the ones that might be true or false and those ones that are said just to make me feel better and encouraged, all of them. But then, one thing I have learned about receiving compliments is that it is something you earn. You won't see any one complimenting a person for no reason, the person or people must have done something that warranted the other person to compliment them.

Like I have said before, I've received so much compliments from different people but one of the greatest compliments I've ever received was the first day I went for a singing audition with my singing group. It was our first audition ever and we were nervous but then we all had to motivate ourselves to just do what we know how to do best. I'm an alto singer by part but after our audition, so many people were just coming to shake hands with me telling me how they loved my voice and my expression, wow!!! I was wowed actually and of course that made me really speechless but of course I was able to say thank you.

Remember I said that was an audition and it was our first, we were privileged to attend another audition the following year and the same thing happened, people just came to me telling me how well they loved my alto singing voice and also how I passed the message of the song. Note, we are a group, but how did these people even got to fetch me out? And you know one funny thing, we were two singing alto and trust me when I say my partner was also a very talented alto singer and that was why I was truly honored by their compliments and that made me worked more on myself.

There are other compliments that I have received but this one stood out because I was not a really good alto singer from the start, I only loved the part and I was determined to learn it and that was how I got better at singing alto. The compliments I got from people made me loved what I did and that is helping me to keep getting better at what I do and it has been a really beautiful journey for me.

• Makes one feels responsible - Whenever you receive a compliment from a person, you always feel like that is a wake up call for you to keep pushing so you can keep getting better.

• Overcome self doubt - Most times when we receive compliments or we compliment someone, it gives us the feeling that we are doing well and we can do well.
  

• Avoid being envy - This one is a little bit strange but then it is something that I have experienced and it works. You know, there are times when we see someone doing something we do better than us and we tend to feel envious of that person and it may lead to jealous but when we compliment those people and tell them how good they are, we will discover that we don't feel too envious of them again.
