Dressed to Impress, But Fell Short: A Choir's Lesson in Performance
During the last Sunday Service, the choir outfit was the talk of the moment because of how beautiful it was. After service, I had to meet the choir director and give him an accolade for the job well-done.
However, the talk of the moment was an irony; as beautiful as the uniform was, the choristers didn't sing in uniform during their performance which became the main talk of the day.
Though many things seemed faulty in the performance - both vocalists and instrumentalists, but my major concern were the vocalists because they were the ones with the colorful uniform.
The adage - "to whom much is given, much is expected" was applicable in this instance; because as outstanding as they were in appearance, we didn't expect they could fumble. As much as they started well in the performance, along the line, it seemed the soloist missed the key resulting in a big mess in the presentation. Before the soloist could get back to herself, the instrumentalists got misled and there was no mutual understanding amongst themselves.
The same way other people were disappointed, I felt both disappointed and embarrassed because I've been rooting for them. Yay! Experience is the best teacher - "they say." I definitely know the choir learned it in a big way and I hope they will improve from their flaws.
Moral Lesson:
Remember - "appearance is not reality" but if you appear so outstanding get ready to give an outstanding result, better still, you go back and work on yourself.
To the choristers:
I hope they don't throw blames on each other, but rather try to build the singing skill.
So friends, when you appear in uniform, also sing in uniform.
Stuffs like this do happen once in a while but the main thing there is to learn from our mistakes.
Atleast they dressed in a nice outfit, it's still something, though they didn't perform to the audience's expectations.
That's my worry 😞.

Church choirs are mostly not professionals. Some of them do not even have passion for music, and that is quite understandable. Some are doing simply because they want to contribute to the service of God, and our encouragement can go a long way.
That's true, but in some churches singers are professional; the likes of Hillsong church, and the rest.
You are right about that @hively
