I've seen various situations while watching anime, but I've never turned off a film by a good creator because of its embarrassing level. Of course, I've abandoned longer series, but in those cases, the dislike grew over the years and was caused by numerous mistakes, fatigue of the material. I don't count weak or average productions, because I usually don't have high expectations for them. So far, Mamoru Hosoda has created good or outstanding films (Mirai, Wolf Children, Summer Wars, Toki o kakeru shōjo), and now he's created something that is filled with the mistakes of a novice creator. I'm all the more surprised that these are really big mistakes that would be hard for me to accept even in a debutant. I'm shocked that during the 74th Cannes Film Festival, this film received a 14-minute standing ovation.

The main source of problems is the leaky script. Both in terms of the created world and the relationships between the characters. I'll start with the internet in this world, because it works in a really "magical" way. One of the features of the network, which its creators and promoters talked about, is that every person can express themselves regardless of their problems. Facial defects, communication difficulties, disorders, difficult character... I don't think I'm lying when I say that for many internet users (maybe even most), the internet is a form of escape from everyday problems or a place where they can forget about sad everyday life. In Belle's world, all users' avatars result directly from their biometric data. Great message - if you're a loser in real life, you'll remain one online xD.

It's similar with other morals. Apart from the extremely stupid death of her mother (I understand what the director wanted to tell us, but I had to force myself to understand this scene), there are a few other strange scenes. For example, a complete misunderstanding of the concept that true beauty lies within a person. Internet users constantly focus on the issue of Belle's beauty, just like the creators of DB Daima on the same jokes Goku. That in itself wouldn't be bad, after all, most of us (if not all) pay attention primarily to beauty, but even in the case of models or OF users, we are not guided only by aesthetic values. It was enough to add a few other lines - for example, emphasizing the character's charm (which is not always associated with a beautiful face) or her good heart. However, this is nothing compared to the finale, which throws the entire moral into the trash. Even if we turn a blind eye to the previous mistakes, why does the protagonist hide behind her Bella avatar after the final confrontation? After all, we have just received a direct message that the most important thing is what is in our hearts, not on the outside.

Overall, the film is not a complete failure. The songs sung by Kaho Nakamura's voice excite people and affect their emotions, just like talented artists do. Her clear voice penetrates me through and through, just like the late Olga Vitalevna Yakovleva, known as Origa or Ado, or other equally good singers. When I first heard Swarms of Song in the trailer, I immediately felt like watching this anime and I couldn't wait until the premiere. Then I watched it with my partner and we were both embarrassed. God forbid the music, or even the drawing. This one, although simple, has its charm and fits the emotional music. The character designs, the slightly faded colors somehow fit the atmosphere. I would be happy about it if only the script was coherent. It doesn't have to be complex, it can be as simple as building a flail. After all, a lot of movies are simple and pretextual, and yet they work. Unfortunately, in this case we got neither. Well, apart from the music, but to listen to it, just turn on YouTube.

Widziałem różne sytuacje podczas oglądania anime, ale jeszcze nigdy mi się nie zdarzyło wyłączyć film od dobrego twórcy z powodu jego żenującego poziomu. Oczywiście, zdarzało mi się porzucić dłuższe serie, ale w tych przypadkach niechęć narastała przez lata i była spowodowana licznymi błędami, zmęczeniem materiału. Słabych lub przeciętnych produkcji nie liczę, bo zazwyczaj nie mam wysokich oczekiwań względem nich. Dotychczas Mamoru Hosoda tworzył dobre lub wybitne filmy (Mirai, Wolf Children, Summer Wars, Toki o kakeru shōjo), a teraz stworzył coś, co jest wypełnione błędami początkującego twórcy. Tym bardziej jestem zdziwiony, że są to naprawdę duże błędy, które byłoby mi trudno zaakceptować nawet u debiutanta. Jestem w szoku, że podczas 74 festiwalu w Cannes, film ten dostał 14-minutowe owacje na stojąco.

Głównym źródłem problemów, jest dziurawy scenariusz. Zarówno w kwestii wykreowanego świata, jak i relacji między postaciami. Zacznę od internetu w tym świecie, bo działa w naprawdę "magiczny" sposób. Jedną z cech sieci, o której mówili jej twórcy i promotorzy, jest to, że każdy człowiek może się wypowiedzieć bez względu na swoje problemy. Wady twarzy, trudności z komunikacją, zaburzenia, trudny charakter... Chyba nie skłamię, gdy powiem że dla wielu internautów (a może nawet większości), internet to pewna forma ucieczki od codziennych problemów lub miejsce, w którym mogą zapomnieć o smutnej codzienności. W świecie Belle, avatary wszystkich użytkowników wynikają wprost z ich danych biometrycznych. Super przekaz - jesteś przegrywem w prawdziwym życiu, to pozostaniesz nim w sieci xD.

Podobnie jest z innymi morałami. Pomijając wybitnie głupią śmierć jej mamy (rozumiem, co chciał nam przekazać reżyser, ale musiałem się zmusić do zrozumienia tej sceny), jest kilka innych dziwnych scen. Np. kompletne niezrozumienie konceptu, że prawdziwe piękno kryje się we wnętrzu człowieka. Internauci skupiają się cały czas na kwestii piękna Belle, tak jak twórcy DB Daima na tych samych żartach Goku. To samo w sobie nie byłoby złe, w końcu większość z nas (jeśli nie wszyscy) zwracamy uwagę przede wszystkim na urodę, ale nawet w przypadku modelek lub użytkowniczek OF, nie kierujemy się tylko i wyłącznie walorami estetycznymi. Wystarczyło dodać kilka innych kwestii - np. podkreślających urokliwość postaci (co nie zawsze wiąże się z piękną twarzą) lub jej dobre serce. To jednak nic wobec finału, który wywala cały morał do kosza. Nawet jeśli przymkniemy oko na dotychczasowe błędy, to dlaczego po ostatecznej konfrontacji, protagonistka chowa się za swój avatar Belli? Przecież przed chwilą dostaliśmy wprost przesłanie, że najważniejsze jest to, co mamy w sercu, a nie na zewnątrz.

Generalnie film nie jest zupełną porażką. Piosenki śpiewane głosem Kaho Nakamury pobudzają człowieka i oddziałują na jego emocje, tak jak to robią utalentowani artyści. Jej czysty głos przenika mnie na wskroś, tak jak świętej pamięci Olgi Vitalevny Yakovlevy znanej jako Origa lub Ado, czy innych równie dobrych piosenkarek, czy piosenkarzy. Gdy pierwszy raz usłyszałem w trailerze Swarms of Song, odrazu nabrałem ochoty na obejrzenie tego anime i nie byłem w stanie wytrzymać do momentu premiery. Potem go obejrzałem ze swoją partnerką i oboje byliśmy zażenowani. Nie broń Boże muzyką, czy nawet kreską. Ta choć prosta, ma swój urok i pasuje do emocjonalnej muzyki. Projekty postaci, nieco wyblakłe kolory jakoś pasują mi do klimatu. Cieszyłbym się tym, gdyby tylko scenariusz był spójny. Nie musi być złożony, może być prosty jak budowa cepa. W końcu mnóstwo filmów jest prostych i pretekstowych, a mimo to działają. Niestety w tym przypadku nie dostaliśmy ani jednego, ani drugiego. No poza muzyką, ale żeby jej posłuchać, wystarczy włączyć YouTube.
