These include, the talking drum, Bata drum, ekwe, aurun, goje, gangan, shekere, gbedu, oghene, local flute and so on. I remember when we were kids and we would make flute out of pawpaw tree parts. It would give great melodious sounds.

As a yoruba girl, I would pick the talking drum over any other instruments anytime. This instrument is peculiar to the western part of Nigerian, the drum can be used to given a speech or communicate to people who understand the workings of the drum. As from the side that it is used to play music, It has being used to sound warnings to offenders. In yoruba parties, there are bands That play vocally, as we don't depend on djs, we prefer to live bands with our local instruments.

So, if I were to learn a musical instrument, it definitely has to be the talking drum. It requires you to be skilled, knowledgeable and well versed in the traditional affairs of your community. Most hip hop Nigerian music even infuse toss talking drum sounds to their music and we are going global now. Just like the latest one reigning that they call ojapiano, the sound is produce from local wooden flute and it is melodious.
