THE POWER OF MUSIC TO SEND DEEP MESSAGES :FEEL GOOD BY MOHBAD(RIP)
The topic of my blog is based on the recent happening in my country Nigeria where a young musician's dream was sidelined because he refused to participate in shaded deals by his label bosses. MOHBAD, the young Nigerian artist with his hit single that engulfed the country as at the time of release (KPK, KO POR KEH) was announced dead recently after he slumped and was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital. Although, with several video clips overtime, we realized that he is never settled, it's either they are threatening him, beating him or he is in the hospital. To the extent that a 27 year old young man was severely hypertensive.
Back to my topic for the blog, truly music are use to pass messages both deep and secular in one way or the other and as we notice in this MOHBAD's music, the themes were always focused on life, threats, death, fulfillment, dreams, achievements and so on. In view I would analyze one of his music titled "feel good" as a fan, 8 know this music by heart.
Imole
Plenty enemy
(Mohbad)
Wey dey follow me
Maje k'o mumi
Even if na die minute
Emi omo ghetto
Moti d'aji lo motor
My grace na auto, automatic
Won fe bami ya photo
Emi ti gbera (on God)
Lati 4:30 (on God)
Won le, won ba ti (on God)
Won mu, won file (on God)
I drip on, jek'onduro (on pause)
Imole (on God)
O wa'le (on God)
(On God)
The first stanza as seen above is just like a prayer to God where he claims that there are plenty enemies after his life that wants to kill him but God should save him from them. He is of the belief that God's grace and mercy shall follow him till he accomplish his dreams. It got so bad that as early as 4:30am he is up and running, from people who wants to catch him but the light of God shines upon him.
Ahn
When I dey Ikorodu sapa mumi
Mo ma ronu, moma sukun (moma sukun)
Ehn, I don work tire
I don pray tire
I don go Mountain of Fire
I know there is a day
All my pains will go away
Mo de ma party all way
I know there is a day
All my pains will go away
'Til then, I smoke it away
I feel good para-ran, para-ran
Omo iya mi malo ronu, ko para-ran, para-ran
I feel good (para-ran)
The second stanza is a recap of how he has struggle and hussled to get to this point in life, how he saved by being a carpenter to fund his music career. From the second stanza he narrates his ordeal from a humble background where they struggled to feed, how he cried and thought of how things can be better. How he prayed and prayed, worked and worked, and hoped that one day his pains will go away and things will get better.
Almost all his songs passed these kind of messages until his death, then we started see videos of how he was molested and bullied. To me, MOHBAD is a fighter, a young man who made sure he achieved his dream but only got into the wrong hands who he thought would support his musical dreams and career.
In conclusion, music has a way of passing messages one way or another, an outlet to pour out your heart and soul for your listeners to feel it. Music can be joyous, can be a warning, can be war, melancholy and so many more.
