Three bands that I love but will never come back
Another Tuesday, another round of #threetunetuesday
I was listening to this band called Dream State yesterday and then I thought about writing this episode with three acts that did something really good in the past but for many reasons they will never come back, so there's no chance to listen to something new from them...
And let's start exactly with
DREAM STATE
A Welsh alternative metal/emocore band, founded in 2014. They released 2 EPs before their first album called Primerose Path in 2019.
I simply love this album. It gives me a lot of emotions. Chills, it makes me sad; it makes me angry; it makes me hopeful and hopeless at the same time. I love the singer's voice. And they contributed to a compilation in aid of mental health and suicide prevention charities.
They still exist and are growing and releasing new songs consistently. So why I say they will never come back? Well, because the only original member left here is the lead guitarist. The new singer... meh, don't like her very much. Also they changed their sound: less emo, more chart-rock driven. I think we'll never hear the "Primerose Path" Dream State anymore. Such a loss for me.
I leave some of the lyrics here for you:
Sick to your death of the same old mess
No, we won't go far from here
Trying to paint us red, sitting with sunsets
The only company is all that fear
And I told you that it wasn't gonna feel right
You disassociate and always turn a blind eye
You carried my bones and gave me the light
I just wanna help you out, I just wanna help you out
No, I've never ever, ever felt so fucked up
I can't even hide behind my make up
I think I have to let you go
(And I'm torn because I don't wanna hurt you)
I can feel what it feels to be like you
(And I just want you to know I love you)
I can feel what it feels to feel that too
(But I've got to let you go)
HOT LEG
Could this be from the 80s? Yes, it could. But no, it's from 2009. The one and only ever released album Red Light Fever by Hot Leg.
Who Hot Leg are? Legitimate question. I feel like I'm the only human being remembering this, along with my brother.
Maybe if you are a big fan of The Darkness you know. After the release of Darkness' second album One way ticket to hell... and back the band broke up. It seems it happened because of singer Justin Hawkins drug addiction problems. So basically while Justin founded this Hot Leg band, all the others became the Stone Gods instead. I'm a big big Justin Hawkins fan, so I loved this Hot Leg album. It's exactly what Justin represented artistically at that time with no one telling him what to do.
This in not even their best song but I share this video because it's the only one I found with good quality for both sound and visuals.
They will never come back because, as you may know, The Darkness came back together in 2011 and I thank everyday for that. But this also means we'll never experience Hot Leg anymore 😢
THE BALCONIES
This one hurts me A LOT. The Balconies were a Canadian alternative indie rock band with a lot of raw garage/indie energy. At least when I saw them live in 2013, as openers for Rival Sons in their European tour.
At that time they have released only their first EP and managed to tour in Europe because they won a national music competition in Canada. Seeing them live has been amazing. Pure rock energy and Jacquie's voice is so powerful. I remember having a crush on her because she reminds me of actress Zooey Deschanel, who I totally love 😍
Fast forward to 2016 when they released their second album, Rhonda. It's been a big surprise because they adopted some electronic sounds, deep synth bass, ambient pads, some interesting sound effects and guitars with a lot of reverb and delay to create some sort of a cinematic atmosphere.
AND I TOTALLY FELL IN LOVE WITH IT!
I listen to this album in full when I know I can listen to it whole, from start to finish. It's the easiest way I know to have a good day. It's one of my favourite album ever!
Probably I'm one of a very very little group in the world that still remember and listen to The Balconies. They are in some sort of standby situation but it's been many many years now.
Jacquie tried to start a solo career once, more towards a pop rock direction. Dropped a couple of tracks and that's it.
Never ever heard about them anymore. Such a shame. They had a great potential and I think in today's music landscape, an album like Rhonda would be really appreciated and had a good success.

I never listed to any of these songs before. I like the I feel it too; feels relatable to meee. Thanks for sharing here in this new community I made even though there's not much posts here
I'll post my ttt here from now on. It's quite hard on Hive to get communities known. Guess the only way to do it is talking about it as much as we can. Every time I post something music related I'll write a little snippet to invite people into this community 👍
oh thanks for doing that. no worries though haha. I just made it so it's easier for me to put posts where I want that follows the topic haha
I had heard of Hot Leg, but not the others. Listening to some others by The Balconies. Good stuff.
