Buongiorno amici di Olio di Balena e followers. Questo post è per partecipare al nuovo round del contest decentralizzato #untobisunto che si svolge ogni settimana nella community di Olio di Balena.

Oggi il tema è davvero pane per i miei denti perché parliamo di musica e io ne so a pacchi e sono sempre molto entusiasta di parlarne. Questo post sarà particolare perché vi porterò con me in un viaggio che toccherà tantissime sonorità molto distanti tra loro ma che hanno tutte contribuito a plasmare il mio gusto musicale e di conseguenza anche il modo in cui io penso, ascolto e creo musica. Sarà un viaggio cronologico che parte da quand'ero bambino fino ad arrivare ai giorni nostri. Senza ulteriore indugio, let's go!

NEK - SE IO NON AVESSI TE

Colpo di scena! Se avete seguito i miei post qui e sui miei social forse non vi sareste mai aspettati una canzone del genere. Eppure questa canzone è la portavoce dei miei primi ricordi musicali. Quando avevo tra i 6 e i 10 anni ricordo che, in auto di mio padre, suonava spesso la cassetta del primo album di Nek, sicuramente più conosciuto per la hit Laura non c'è che certo è una splendida canzone, ma Se io non avessi te è sempre stata la mia preferita e continua ad essere tutt'ora una delle mie canzoni italiane più ascoltate.
Di quel periodo ricordo anche i Nomadi e Mango. Poi è arrivata MTV a portarmi nel mondo del pop internazionale e qui passo alla mia band pop forse preferita di tutti i tempi.

BLACK EYED PEAS - ANXIETY (feat. PAPA ROACH)

Altro colpo di scena ahaha! Ebbene sì, dalla big hit Where is the Love fino al loro primo scioglimento sono stato un grandissimo fan dei BEP. Posseggo entrambi i loro album di picco Elephunk e Monkey Businness. Qui però vi condivido una chicca che ben pochi conoscono. Una canzone in collaborazione con la band metal Papa Roach che era presente nella soundtrack di un gioco per Xbox, Wrestlemania 21.
In quel periodo infatti la mia più grande passione oltre ai videogiochi era il wrestling. Il mix perfetto per avvicinare una giovane mente ai piaceri del rock e del metal. Entriamo allora in pieno nel mio periodo rock con...

DEEP PURPLE - HIGHWAY STAR

questa versione è un po' diversa da quella originale e la trovo molto interessante, soprattutto nella parte vocale di Ian Gillan che la spinge come un bastardo

Se proprio devo scegliere una canzone per rappresentare il mio periodo rock, scelgo questa. Ricordo ancora chiaramente la scena: mio padre e mio fratello mi vengono a prendere a scuola dopo essere tornato da una gita, quando avevo 16 anni. Mio padre inserisce nel lettore cd un best of Deep Purple e io rimango totalmente folgorato dall'assolo di Highway Star. Da totale ignorante mi chiedo "come fa una persona a suonare una cosa del genere? Gli servono almeno quattro mani! Voglio farlo anch'io". E fu così che comprai la mia prima chitarra 😁

PINK FLOYD - SHINE ON YOU CRAZY DIAMOND

Devo fare una piccola deviazione per i Pink Floyd. Grazie al mio maestro di chitarra che mi ha fatto scoprire questa perla, insieme a Wish You Were Here e Comfortably Numb. Attribuisco ai Pink Floyd un momento di epifania che ha completamente aperto la mia mente ad un universo musicale più vasto, fatto di tante sonorità nuove da scoprire, che ho poi approfondito proprio a partire dall'album The Dark Side of the Moon.
Occhio che ora c'è un twist violento...

PANTERA - COWBOYS FROM HELL

Nonostante ai tempi (17 anni) conoscessi già un po' di metal, soprattutto grazie al wrestling e a videogiochi come Need for Speed e Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, ritengo sia stato vedere il video di Cowboys from hell che mi abbia effettivamente fatto interessare attivamente al genere. Uso questa canzone come rappresentazione della mia parte di metallaro che va ai concerti a pogare e mi ricorda i primi concerti delle band di miei amici che facevano death metal e metalcore, suonando in stanzette buie piene di ragazzi che volevano solo sfogarsi e far casino in compagnia. Bei tempi 😅

Sono dovuti passare ben 13 anni per arrivare alla mia ultima svolta musicale che sta segnando in maniera fortissima chi sono, cosa ascolto e cosa suono in questo preciso momento e negli anni a venire della mia carriera:

BLUTENGEL - REICH MIR DIE HAND

Credo che questa canzone dei Blutengel sia stata la spinta per la mia mente nell'interessarsi alla musica elettronica e a quella goth allo stesso tempo. In realtà ci sono state anche altre canzoni perché l'interesse è nato non da un singolo ascolto ma dall'avere frequentato alcune serate a tema goth organizzate da alcuni dj. Considero però questa canzone come rappresentatrice di questo nuovo switch nei miei gusti musicali perché mi ricorda quanto felice era la mia ragazza nell'ascoltare questa musica a quegli eventi. Ci andavamo insieme, era una novità che ci riempiva di entusiasmo e lei impazziva per i Blutengel. Ne sono rimasto talmente colpito che ho deciso di suonare anch'io questo genere di musica, pur non sapendo nulla di sintetizzatori e drum machine. Ed è così che è nato Harbiter.

Ovviamente è uscito un post molto lungo ma non poteva essere altrimenti. Ho cercato di essere conciso però ti dico che potrei fare un altro post con altrettante scelte che vanno ad approfondire altri sottogeneri che sono comunque molto importanti per me. Magari lo farò lo stesso, chissà! Spero che questo viaggio nella mia vita musicale sia stato interessante e spero di incontrare in futuro altri temi altrettanto adatti a me nel contest di Unto & Bisunto. Ciao e alla prossima 😁

Good morning friends of Olio di Balena and followers. This post is to participate in the new round of the decentralized contest #untobisunto that takes place every week in the Olio di Balena community.

Today the topic is really up my alley because we talk about music and I know a lot about it and I am always very enthusiastic talking about it. This post is special because I will take you with me on a journey that will touch on many sounds very distant from each other but which have all contributed to shaping my musical taste and consequently also the way in which I think, listen and create music. It will be a chronological journey that starts from when I was a child up to the present day. Without further ado, let's go!

NEK - SE IO NON AVESSI TE

Plot twist! If you have followed my posts here and on my social media, perhaps you would never have expected a song like this. Yet this song is representative of my first musical memories. When I was between 6 and 10 years old, I remember that, in my father's car, he often played the tape of Nek's first album, certainly better known for the hit Laura non c'è which is certainly a wonderful song, but Se io non avessi te has always been my favorite and continues to be one of my most listened to Italian songs. From that period I also remember Nomadi and Mango. Then MTV arrived to bring me into the world of international pop and here I move on to perhaps my favorite pop band of all time.

this version is a bit different from the original and I find it very interesting, especially in the vocal part of Ian Gillan who pushes it like a devil

If I really have to choose a song to represent my rock period, I choose this one. I still clearly remember the scene: my father and my brother come to pick me up from school after I came back from a trip, when I was 16. My father plays a best of Deep Purple in the CD player and I am totally struck by the Highway Star solo. As a total ignorant I ask myself "how can a person play something like that? He needs at least four hands! I want to do it too". And that's how I bought my first guitar 😁

PINK FLOYD - SHINE ON YOU CRAZY DIAMOND

I have to make a small detour for Pink Floyd. Thanks to my guitar teacher who made me discover this pearl, along with Wish You Were Here and Comfortably Numb. I attribute to Pink Floyd a moment of epiphany that completely opened my mind to a wider musical universe, made up of many new sounds to discover, which I then explored starting from the album The Dark Side of the Moon.

PANTERA - COWBOYS FROM HELL

Even though I already knew a bit about metal at the time (17 years old), especially thanks to wrestling and videogames like Need for Speed and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, I think it was seeing the video for Cowboys from hell that actually got me actively interested in the genre. I use this song as a representation of my metalhead side that goes to concerts to mosh and it reminds me of the first concerts of my friends' bands that played death metal and metalcore, playing in dark rooms full of kids who just wanted to let off steam and mess things up together. Good times 😅

It took 13 years to get to my latest musical turning point that is strongly marking who I am, what I listen to and what I play in this precise moment and in the years to come of my career:

BLUTENGEL - REICH MIR DIE HAND

I think this Blutengel song was the push for my mind to be interested in electronic and gothic music at the same time. Actually there were other songs because the interest was born not from a single listening but from having attended some goth themed nights organized by some DJs. But I consider this song as a representative of this new switch in my musical taste because it reminds me how happy my girlfriend was to listen to this music at those events. We went together, it was a new thing that filled us with enthusiasm and she waa going crazy for Blutengel. I was so impressed that I decided to play this kind of music too, even though I didn’t know anything about synths and drum machines. And that is how Harbiter was born.

Obviously a very long post came out but it could not be otherwise. I tried to be concise but I tell you that I could do another post with as many choices that go to deepen other subgenres that are still very important for me. Maybe I’ll do it anyway, who knows! I hope that this journey in my musical life has been interesting and I hope to meet in the future other themes just as suitable for me in the contest of Unto & Bisunto. See you next time 😁
