A new chapter begins

Here we are. A new chapter in my story is about to begin. My new song will be released next Friday. It's not really new and it's not really mine because it's actually a cover of an iconic 80s goth rock song.

I'm telling you in advance because I'm proud of Hive and I want to give you more. The song is Lucretia My Reflection by The Sisters of Mercy. I'll leave you the original to listen to.

Why this song?
There are several reasons.

First: I love it.

From the first time I listened to it when I approached the goth world I immediately liked it. My voice fits pretty well and it's a fairly simple song, which allowed me to work on it easily and add new elements that would make it mine.
I kept the base built on the bass line that makes it immediately recognizable on all the dance floors in the world. I added some guitar parts that greatly enrich the arrangement. The synths I decided to use have a more modern and aggressive sound. And then... there's a bass solo 😎

Second: it's famous.

There's no way around it. If you decide to release a cover and promote it, in addition to your taste, you do it to reach a larger audience more easily. This is why Lucretia My Reflection will not be the only cover I release. I expect a couple more in the coming months. This is a song that is truly played by every goth DJ in the world. I hope it can give me a major push to reach my audience.
I realize that it can be a double-edged sword. On one side there will be people who will love my version and will easily follow me. On the other side there will be plenty of critics, ready to hate and demolish my version that absolutely cannot compete with the original.
Yeah, ok.
I don't care.
I know what I'm doing. This song was one of the first I learned and prepared. I always play it when I'm live. And I'm proud of the version I created.
I'm confident that it will be a great success, but I've also learned to keep expectations low to avoid major disappointments.

yep, that's me playing Lucretia live

Third: it is perfect to tell a new chapter of Harbiter's story.

I will talk about it more in depth when the video comes out in two weeks, but reading the lyrics of Lucretia, this song and its meaning fits perfectly into this second part of Harbiter's story and the Invisibles of the night's uprising.
Each song will serve to tell a piece of the story. Unfortunately I can't get them to come out in chronological order, so the story will be told in a scattered and fragmented order, until the full album comes out.
Lucretia tells the moment in which Harbiter meets a person who has the same ideas and ambitions as him and sees the reflection of himself, fighting against the industrialized and dehumanizing system in which they both live and find themselves subjected.

That said, those who join the Invisibles of the night army will receive the song in preview. Here is the link: https://harbiter.ck.page/jointheinvisibles

Classic song by a major band in the goth style of music. I'm looking forward to hearing your spin on it!

Now I'm thinking about the beginning of the Goth sound, and although Bella Lugosi's Dead by BauHaus from '79 is considered the start according to some internet sources, I am thinking of 2 songs from the mid 60s that had a hint of goth. Maybe I'll feature them in my post tonight. :)

Thanks for getting me thinking about one of my fave music genres!
