TTT: German Hardrock - Country

avatar

It is time for another #ThreeTuneTuesday. For those not familiar with it, here's an explanation.

About 88 Weeks ago @ablaze started this incredible movement:

Every Tuesday I'm going to share 3 songs which I like to listen to and I invite your feedback in the comments below. Or why not have a blast of your own Three Tune Tuesday and mention me in the post and I'll come and find the post and hopefully upvote it. It'll be a sweet way for us all to discover new music.

They call themselves Kärbholz, a deliberate misspelling of the German word for tally-stick.

In German the word Kerbholz (in its correct spelling) has a dark denotation, it is mostly used in the idiom "Etwas auf dem Kärbholz haben" - "To have something on the tally stick" which means in hard terms someone did time in prison or in softer context someone did something wrong.

I learnt of this band a few years ago with the song "Überdosis Leben" - "(I want) an overdose (of) life".

They appear in the image of hard rockers (who did time, even though they themselves did not as far as I know, hence their name) but their songs are mostly about enjoying life to the best we can.

The song "Perfekt unperfekt" - "Perfect unperfect" is about how two people acknowledge and admire the faults of the other.

And in some wicked turn of the phrase that makes them perfect for each other.

What a perfect song for a karaoke event to be sung by a couple in love. And even in its original version there is seldom a party at which no one starts singing along to this song.

After I heard these two songs I was enthusiastic about this band. And they managed to entangle me even more with their ballad "Kind aus Hinterwald" - "backwood kid".

I grew up on the countryside in a small village in the middle of West-Germany, close (very very close) to the iron curtain. The first decade of my life we were able to play soccer on the streets on Sundays because there was no traffic. After all, the end of the world (as we knew it) was less than 2 miles away.

My 20's and 30's I mostly lived in big cities until I finally settled again in a small village at the north west coast, I got that idyllic life of my childhood back and can now pass it on to my son.

This song, even though it is very young compared to the memories it provokes, reminds me of that time.

I like how they mix things up between hard rock, making it a duet, and a soft country ballad. They are really great to listen to when I sit in my backyard with a little fire burning on a warm summer evening.

Hopefully you enjoyed them as much as I do. 😄

Thank you for reading and keep on rocking 🤘

My 20's and 30's I mostly lived in big cities until I finally settled again in a small village at the north west coast, I got that idyllic life of my childhood back and can now pass it on to my son.

You know, I have thought recently how it would be to move back to a small town on the Canadian prairies. One of those towns with a grain elevator, post office, a couple restaurants and a drug store. That kinda place.

Then I think about the logistics of moving Stuff, Children, and Animals across the continent and an international border. Oy.

That said, I loved that third song. Don't need to understand the language to understand the spirit of the song, and the music is superb. I also really enjoyed the rock/country aspect to it. Great choice!

Yes, moving is terrible.
And sometimes I even miss the city. I'm so far out, cannot even order a !PIZZA here. 😞

Glad you enjoyed it. What a great compliment to the band, I'll pass it along if I ever have the chance. 😉

With your vintage records collection containing some German and listening to this music, you'll catch on to some words and phrases soon enough 😘

These guys rock!! 🤘🤘

I haven't a rashers what they are singing about, but it sounds damn good, just finished the first song, nice. The second one is great too, and reminds me of an English band that I can't remember by name, but great musicianship in this one too, nice one, all completely new to me which I always like.

Glad you like it. 😀
Uh, English band? Most English bands I know I don't even know they are English 😜 Sorry, cannot help you there.

Thanks for reading/listening.

Yes, heard of them 😉
But it's a more passive vocabulary so won't be of any help there I guess.
