Exploring Eurovision 2026: What I liked.

It's been a while since I last talked about music in my blog. I used to talk more during my beginnings in here. But I also stopped a bit listening to new bands, and once in a while I have time to stop and listen to something. But right now is a good time to meet some new bands and singers, it is Eurovision time. Despite not being very popular in Canada, I always check what the contestants are singing there. I don't care about the winner since mostly isn't the type of music that I would choose as a winner.

The French entry by Monroe is very solid and technical.

Social media is crazy, and I saw people talking about the contestants from Croatia and Poland. To be frank, I didn't like either. They talked about the voice of the women singing, but technically speaking, the French contestant Monroe looks better than all of them and the music isn't bad. She sounds like an opera singer who mixed classical with contemporary music, which sounds great.

But probably the most interesting contestant is the band from Serbia, called Lavina. They are probably the only rock band in the finals. They look a bit different at first. I watched the contestants with my daughters and they didn't like their presentation. Their music is a bit heavy and dark. It looks like industrial rock and reminds me of the German band Rammstein. Percussive machine-like rhythm and cold performance style. The music lyrics of "Kraj mene" are in Serbian, but I read the translation, and it is more emotional, not very close to Rammstein.

I went deeper and searched on Spotify about more of the band and found the album Odyssey from 2022 and it is a bit closer to grunge and alternative metal, which reminds me a lot of some 90s sound. It is an interesting album that deserves a listen if you are a rock fan and want something new. Maybe it reminds a bit of Alice in Chains, that's the band that I associated with their sound.

Still, if you don't like either of my two recommendations in this post, maybe you would enjoy the fun "Viva Moldova" by the rapper Satoshi, even his artistic name is fun for obvious reasons. It is a fun song without being complicated. Similar to last year's "Espresso Macchiato", Estonia's entry. So have you been into Eurovision this year? Or nah?

Já faz um tempo desde a última vez que falei sobre música no meu blog. Eu costumava falar mais no começo, quando comecei por aqui. Mas também parei um pouco de ouvir bandas novas, e de vez em quando tenho tempo para parar e ouvir alguma coisa. Mas agora é uma boa hora para conhecer novas bandas e cantores, é época do Eurovision. Apesar de não ser muito popular no Canadá, sempre dou uma olhada no que os participantes estão cantando lá. Não me importo com o vencedor, já que geralmente não é o tipo de música que eu escolheria como vencedor.

A música francesa da Monroe é muito sólida e técnica.

As redes sociais estão uma loucura, e vi pessoas falando sobre os participantes da Croácia e da Polônia. Para ser sincera, não gostei de nenhuma das duas. Falaram muito sobre a voz das cantoras, mas tecnicamente falando, a francesa Monroe se saiu melhor do que todas as outras e a música não é ruim. Ela soa como uma cantora de ópera que misturou música clássica com contemporânea, o que fica ótimo.

Mas provavelmente a concorrente mais interessante é a banda sérvia Lavina. Eles são provavelmente a única banda de rock na final. À primeira vista, eles parecem um pouco diferentes. Assisti às apresentações com minhas filhas e elas não gostaram. A música deles é um pouco pesada e sombria. Parece rock industrial e me lembra a banda alemã Rammstein. Ritmo percussivo e mecânico e um estilo de performance frio. A letra de "Kraj mene" está em sérvio, mas li a tradução e é mais emotiva, não muito parecida com Rammstein.

Aprofundei e pesquisei mais sobre a banda no Spotify, encontrando o álbum Odyssey, de 2022. Ele se aproxima mais do grunge e do metal alternativo, lembrando bastante o som dos anos 90. É um álbum interessante que vale a pena ouvir se você é fã de rock e quer algo novo. Talvez lembre um pouco Alice in Chains, a banda que associo ao som deles.

Mesmo assim, se você não gostar de nenhuma das minhas duas recomendações neste post, talvez curta a divertida "Viva Moldova" do rapper Satoshi. Até o nome artístico dele é divertido por motivos óbvios. É uma música divertida sem ser complicada. Semelhante ao "Espresso Macchiato" do ano passado, a música da Estônia. E aí, você curtiu o Eurovision este ano? Ou não?
