Knowledge is important.
I remember when I was studying at the university, I came across a book that I consider a gem of musical literature for anyone wishing to delve into the world of orchestral sounds; it's called Classical Music for Dummies.
I know the title is quite funny, but you shouldn't judge a book by its cover—it truly was one of the best texts I’ve ever read on orchestral music.
I discovered many great European and North American composers thanks to that book. If I recall correctly, it was about 300 pages long and covered orchestral instruments, music history, and the most influential composers in the symphonic world.
Reading is important because it expands your awareness of the world. It’s like traveling within your own mind; you can visit places, meet people, and witness conflicts, battles, and creations in every word.
Boarding Pass, a piece dedicated to a great musician.
I wrote this work to record it with a mandolin master named Emmanuel Araque; however, while conceiving the piece, I realized it sounds very good for a brass instrument. That is why I decided to present it this way—I don't really like the mandolin sound on my Sibelius software. What you are listening to is a Flugelhorn, one of my favorite brass instruments.
When I traveled to Bolivia, I had the opportunity to spend time with Maestro Emmanuel Araque. I remember seeing him walking through the airport and I perceived him as someone who always carries a good vibe; I imagined him with his mandolin on his back, walking "relax" while waiting for his flight.
For those who don't know, the Boarding Pass is the entry ticket for the plane. Once you have checked your luggage and passed through airport security, they give you this ticket which specifies your assigned seat for the flight.
I hope you enjoy this performance; it is one of my favorite pieces! God bless you, a fraternal hug.
