Donation Post for Nelson-George + Three Tune Tuesday

avatar

It's early here, I've been enjoying reading blogs as I sip my morning coffee. My kids didn't wake with the sun today, and I'm filled with gratitude. Then I get a notification. It's from @chincoculbert, who I'm not sure I've interacted with. I see I am tagged among a list of other Hivians, "Please reblog, or ignore." the text that heads the column of tags says.

I read the post it is attached to, and my heart is set inside vice grips. I read about @nelson-george, who has just completed university! He speaks of how he had this great feeling that life was ready to take off for him, when something horrendous happened. He was frying eggs around 8 pm, his sister had left a bit ago to get something. Suddenly, he hears her screaming outside the house.

Two men are ripping the clothes off his sister, and like any good brother would, he moves immediately to help her. (Nelson-George, you are very brave, and I sincerely hope your sister is okay!!) Everything went black from there, from what it sounds like. When he woke up, he was in the hospital. He had been shot pretty badly.

You can find his post here. Now, I don't know either of these people as far as I recall, but they are my people anyhow. Could it be a scam? Sure. I don't feel that it is. I looked over Nelson-George's profile, and it seems he was quite active before the end of his school year (understandable!). I think he is a bright young man who did something very brave, and I think we should help him.

50% of this post will payout to @nelson-george, perhaps some others would consider doing the same? Many of us are financially struggling, especially with the holiday season, but this is a pain-free way to chip in! I also saw someone ask him to add a way to send fiat, which is a great idea.

These songs are for you, Nelson-George 💚

In one of my favorite games from the Zelda franchise, Majora's Mask, Link is attacked by the main villain in the very beginning. The Skull Kid puts a curse on Link, taking away his ability to fight in the way he knows how. He wanders for a time in Deku form, eventually arriving at Clock Town.

When he gets there, the happy mask salesman is waiting to speak to him. "You've met a terrible fate, haven't you?" he asks. He goes on to explain that Link scuffled with true evil, the Skull Kid would end the world in three days! he agrees to heal Link, if he will help him against the Skull Kid.

Of course, it is a video game, so he makes you do some other stuff first. However, pretty early in the game he plays you the famous song of healing, restoring Link back to his human form.

I love the Zelda games because there is a theme that throughout time, a hero will always appear when needed. Just like Nelson-George appeared for his sister. I believe that when he is healed, he will continue to be a light in this world. We need that.

I hope somehow the magic of this song is real, and it soothes the pain you must be suffering Nelson. Remember, many great heroes suffered before they stepped into their power, your bright time in life is likely ahead yet, my new friend.

This next one is MY JAM. When I knew I had a tough day ahead of me, this song has appeared so many times to let me know I could handle it! Have you ever played Crono Trigger? Emulators for it are widely available, so if you haven't, please don't talk to me till you do. K thanks.

Okay OKAY, I don't mean it (really). It is one of the greatest games of all time though, and it's free now I'm pretty sure... just saying 😉 Crono is another awesome hero. Check this tune out while I tell you why he's so darn sharp!

You see, Crono was big time chilling at a fair, a young spiky haired fella. At one point he goes to try his might against Gato, the punching robot. This tune comes from that scene, where one can milk quite a lot of early game XP.

He meets this kinda weird blonde chick, but she's cool. They horse around for a bit, and then he takes her to his friend Lucca's presentation. Now, Lucca is a science WHIZ KID, okay? And she's invented a TIME MACHINE!

Before Crono knows it, blondie is jetting straight for the time-laser pad of the machine! Instinct prompts him to follow, Crono doesn't talk... ever. We can safely assume it is a sense of chivalry though. He is transported back in time with her, and sets off to find this mysterious doofus.

Like Crono and our dear Nelson-George, good people don't need to think twice before doing the right things. They are too busy acting on what they see oftentimes.

As I've left you two songs that originate from 2 out of 3 of my favorite games of all time, I felt I should add one from the third. It fits.

I want you to imagine you are strolling through the woods, the trees are old here. The moss that blankets the soil softens your footsteps. A clearing opens up ahead where ancient branches part. The first thing you see are the Pegasus, who soar in loops around a central point.

A rustic yet magnificent castle blends in with the trees up ahead, a path leads you there, created by thousands of mindful footsteps. An army is within, yet they do no damage to the landscape with their presence. Welcome to the Rampart!

This cover from my very favorite game of all time, Heroes of Might and Magic 3, it is the music you hear when you enter the rampart castles. In Erathia, the world of this game, a fierce battle between good and evil is sweeping across the land. Allied with the forces of good, the rampart is a beautiful faction of woodland creatures.

Here, Dwarves and Elves live together peacefully in the necessity of war. The tough, magic resistant nature of the Dwarves is a wonderful compliment to the skillful archery of the Elves! Centaurs and Unicorns live here too, under the shadow of a frightening cliff face.

There is no need to worry, the gold dragon you see hidden in the shadows above is no threat. She too is allied in the fight against evil. The Ents you may mistake as Trees here can tell you the tale, of how this awful war came to be...

I adore fantasy because we do not often see true heroism in life. It is not that it does not exist, it just isn't often spotlighted. I love and admire each person who does the right thing in a world where it is easy to ignore the plight of others.

It is terrible to say, but some would have recognized the danger of intervening in a crime, even one that hurts their own sister, and decided not to do anything. We are just human, and fear is a paralyzer. Sometimes it is that our bodies do not allow us to do anything.

In Heroes of Might and Magic lore, a few bold commanders struck out against the emerging forces of evil. This inspired many factions to unite. The Ramparts with their woodland might, the Castles with their impressive cavaliers and swift gryphons, and eventually the Conflux armies, who wield elemental power from each faucet of nature.

If only we could gather our merits, and fight along as clearly defined lines on earth.

@nelson-george I am sending you so much love from the US! I truly admire what you did, and I hope that life grants you a speedy recovery!

I smile each time I see a young adult complete an academic achievement, and I hope there is still a time and place for you to continue celebrating that after you heal! I feel it in my bones, that many great things are ahead for a remarkable man like yourself 💚

I hope these songs bring you happiness, and you receive the help you need to keep going. Don't give up! You are seen. I sit with you, even though I am across the Atlantic. Playing you the tunes I hope will help you heal, with a heart full of admiration and awe.

Please get well soon!

Once again, here is his post. Please consider sending him some love!

That's a sad story. People nowadays are uncontrollable when it comes to making bad decisions in life. Doing crimes for example. Good thing @nelson-george became a supportive brother to her sister. That's one brave decision a family member can instantly think. Get well soon @nelson-george!
