'Song 76' - New Original Music - A Dawless Idea...

I took a break this afternoon

and decided to just do a quick little dawless jam. This wasn't a timed challenge but I think I spent all of 25 minutes at the most, including exporting the video, hehe. I started with a tapeloop, the guitar/bass line I recorded onto tape a while back. I played it with that tweaked player I bought on Etsy, which has a few cool features I used here. Firstly, there is a regular speed knob, to adjust playback speed. There is a secondary speed knob, which you can flip on or off, which lets you get MORE speed, or pitch or both. In this case, I had that second knob set an octave above, so I could flip it on and off to jump things up and down. Finally, there is a noisey synth drone on the tape player, which by coincidence played in key here (it was a fifth up from our tonic, just slightly out of tune), so I flipped that on a few times. That loop and all the pitch/speed tweaking ran through the Microcosm, which I also messed around with while it played to create consistent variation. Finally, I added some drums and two chord samples on the Digitakt. The tapeloop technically didn't repeat at barlines, but, with all the Microcosm effects being quantized, with the drums it wind up working out in a weird way. I think this made for a cool result overall.
