This Heat - Paper Hats

I stumbled onto This Heat a few years ago,

Gareth Williams of the band (Image Source)
though I don't specifically remember how. I do remember seeing their album covers, which intrigued me, as did their name, and once I listened to their music, I was super surprised and really into it. They were SO weird and experimental, pushing boundaries far beyond any other bands of their era. This Heat was formed in 1976 in Camberwell, London, by Charles Hayward, Charles Bullen, and Gareth Williams. They all played multiple instruments, which allowed the band to use a whole variety of sounds and timbres to create wild songs. In their original incarnation, they only released 2 albums and 1 EP, releasing a second EP after they reformed in the late '80s. Unfortunately, Williams passed away in 2001; Hayward and Bullen brought the group back together for 3 years, 2016-2019, under the new moniker This Is Not This Heat. Today's song is from the band's second (and final) full length album, Deceit, and was that album cover I mentioned catching my eye initially. The music awesome, experimental and dissonant, but still cohesive and rhythmically driving. I love the sound of the guitars here, they remind me a bit of bands like Hella or Battles, who I'm sure both were influenced by these guys.
