an immediate favorite when I first heard them, and have been a band that I consistently revisit over the years. The group was formed in 1976 in London, England, and were a part of the burgeoning punk scene of the time. Their early music definitely fit into that genre, but as they played gigs over the subsequent 3 years, their tunes evolved and shifted, eventually resulting in the versions on their 1979 debut album Cut. The songs were more angular, with cleaner guitar tones and a sort of experimental reggae/ska feeling, which has garnered the band of this era the 'post-punk' label. The deluxe version of this album is really fascinating, as it has multiple versions of each song, including Peel Sessions, in which the punkier versions are played.
