that I knew about for a long time, but didn't really become a fan of until much later. They were often cited by other bands I loved, but when I would pick random songs to listen to, they were very 'un-punk', which my teenage self had issues with ( (albeit silly ones, hehe). Fortunately, as I got older, I'd revisit them and find myself a fan. The band was first formed in 1979 in Minneapolis, MN and consisted of Paul Westerberg, brothers Tommy and Bob Stinson, and Chris Mars until 1986 when Bob was kicked out, and the whole band eventually dissolved in 1991. They've since reformed a couple of times for festivals and gigs. Their earliest music was punk (definitely more influenced by early UK and New York bands, not the hardcore variety), but they began to incorporate other sounds and styles with each subsequent release. Eventually, they were more of just a rock band, and are often cited as one of the first alternative rock groups. Today's song is from a latter release, 1987's Pleased to Meet Me. This was their second major label release, though it and the first did not perform as the labels had hoped; The Replacements were not an easy band to promote and monetize, with their snotty, satirical personalities and often wild, drunken shows. However, their music had a serious cult following which has only grown over the years, and the band has earned their rightful place as one of the most influential of that time period.
