Grapthar's Daily Hive Music Feature: The Police - 'Message in a Bottle'
The Police - Message in a Bottle
The Police are an all time favorite
of mine, who I've definitely shared here before. Normally, I try and avoid sharing a band's biggest hits and try and pick out tunes that are a bit more off the beaten path, but The Police have SO many great songs, and the hits are amazing so its difficult to not choose them. The band was formed in 1977 in London and after a very early line-up change, consisted of Sting, Andy Summers, and Stewart Copeland. Th trio developed a sound entirely their own, combining rock, punk, reggae and new-wave elements into something entirely new. This tune is, of course, one of their biggest tunes, but always worth listening to. I love the guitar line, consisting entirely of powerchords with 9ths on top, which is a simple but super effective trick to making things sound so much more interesting. It's from their 1979 album Reggatta de Blanc which, if you have not heard all the way through, I highly recommend, as every track is really great.
