Grapthar's Daily Hive Music Feature: The Misfits - 'Some Kinda Hate'
The Misfits - Some Kinda Hate
I have loved The Misfits
for a LONG time now, probably since the end of 7th grade when I first found them, Minor Threat and a few other seminal bands that altered my tastes and musical trajectory. Lately I've been on a Misfits kick and have had them on every day at some point for a week or two, so I figured they're the obvious choice for today's post. The band was formed in 1977 in New Jersey by vocalist Glenn Danzig, though in the early days he also played keyboards and guitar. Jerry Only would join the band in shortly after, replacing the original bassist; his brother Doyle would also join the group, though later in 1980. There are a LOT of other members who came and went, plus later incarnations of the band, so I can't list them all here, though the Wikipedia chart is worth a look. The band would split in 1983, with Danzig embarking on Samhain and then Danzig; The Misfits would reform in the '90s, with another vocalist, though I sort of consider that its own band as its really different. Today's tune is a classic, and a favorite of mine, It was recorded for the 1978 Static Age album, the band's debut, though that album wouldn't wind up being released in its entirety until 1996. However, a number of the songs on it would come out in 1985 on the Legacy of Brutality compilation, which is definitely where I found them. The classic cover of that compilation was my introduction to the group, and definitely had me hooked.
