Grapthar's Daily Hive Music Feature: The Faint - 'Violent'

high school, and a group who has a really interesting, varied discography. They were first formed in 1995 in Omaha, NE, and an early incarnation of the band had Conor Oberst, later of Bright Eyes fame (though at the time, the band's name was Norman Bailer). Their first album as The Faint was released in 1998, and sounds very much like a lot of the midwest emo/indie from that time. Their second album incorporated synthesizers, and more punky guitars, and was a part of the burgeoning 'dance-punk' scene of the early '00s. Their 3rd album leaned MUCH more into the electronic, and feels more like what now is called synthwave, with '80s throwback elements, but also more modern production and style. Their 4th album still had synthy elements, but reverted to much more traditional rock instrumentation. After that, they would vary a lot, with 3 other albums since, with the most recent having been released in 2019. Today's song comes from their 2001 album Danse Macabre, which is my favorite album of theirs if only for the nostalgic value it holds for me. This is the second to last track on the album, and is a great, dark, dancey one, and a perfect example of their sound during this time period.
