Grapthar's Daily Hive Music Feature: Sparta - 'Red Alibi'
Sparta - Red Alibi
Sparta is a band I've been into since
high school and their debut album. I was a HUGE At The Drive-In fan, and when they split, I got into both of the groups that emerged: The Mars Volta and Sparta. It was an interesting split, as the two bands that came out of it sort of each went in opposite directions, embracing the different halves of At The Drive-In's sound. The Mars Volta embraced the weird and experimental, and Sparta the post-hardcore/emo side of the original band. The original Sparta line-up consisted of Jim Ward, Paul Hinojos, and Tony Hajjar from ATDI, and Erick Sanger, though Sanger was replaced by Matt Miller shortly after. There have been members who came and went, and apparently, the current line-up is only Ward and Miller. The group has released 5 albums in total, with the first 3 between 2001-2008, and the other 2 recently, in 2020 and 2022. Today's song is a personal favorite, and has been a go-to of mine ever since I first heard it. It comes from their debut album, Wiretap Scars, released in 2002. This album is super nostalgic for me when I listen to it now; so many memories of high school are tied up in these songs, and I'm immediately taken back every time I listen.
