Grapthar's Daily Hive Music Feature: Smashing Pumpkins - 'Here is No Why'

kick lately, and spent quite a bit of time over the last couple weeks listening to the expanded release of Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, which includes the original double album, but also 2 other discs of alternate recordings, demos, unreleased songs, etc., which has been a ton of fun. I first really got into the band in my early 20s. Like most folks, I knew of their big singles, and liked those, but it was when I started listening to their albums in full that I really understood the band and fell in love with their music. They combined so many interesting genres and styles, and were so different than any other big/famous rock bands of that era: shoegaze, metal, rock, punk, electronic, post-rock, etc. etc., they were willing to use any and everything if it served the song. This tune is from that aforementioned Mellon Collie, and is a great example of their genre bending song. It's clearly heavy, metal influenced, but features maj7 chords which are very NOT metal, and the over songwriting is more catchy and pop influenced as well. Just a really cool tune overall.
