Grapthar's Daily Hive Music Feature: Pixies - 'Winterlong'

Pixies - Winterlong
I realized earlier that it has been

quite a while since I shared any Pixies tunes here, so I wanted to correct that today. I didn't actually grow up on this band, though when I finally really got into their music, I was immediately hooked and have been a die-hard ever since. The Pixies were first formed in 1986 in Boston, MA, and for the first section of the band's existence consisted of Frank Black, Joey Santiago, Kim Deal and David Lovering. Deal would eventually leave the band, and the band would breakup/go on hiatus, before reforming with a few different bassists, before settling on Paz Lenchantin, who remained their permanent bassist until a year ago or so. Today's tune isn't actually an original but, it's an awesome tune and a personal favorite. Originally, this is a Neil Young song, and the original is amazing too, though this cover might be my favorite version. I love the vocals and vocal melodies, particularly with the key changes between sections. This was first released on the Dig for Fire Single, released in 1994, which was a single from their album Bossanova.
