of surfer Sterling Spencer I was watching the other day, and it made me realize that it's been a while since I'd listened to Young, so I had a bit of a Neil Young on shuffle day today. While I grew up listening to a ton of bands and artists from the '60s and '70s, Neil Young I sort of just missed out on. I knew a few singles, and was acutely aware of his name and overall fame, but it wasn't until my mid 20s that I really gained an appreciation for his whole catalog and became a legitimate fan. His songwriting is really incredible, and ranges from the relatively simple pop structures to much more complex stuff, all while maintaining his own signature sort of vibe. His sort of lighter, higher voice also adds a timbre that I think really makes his music powerful. This tune is the title track of his 1974 album, and was the aforementioned song in the surf video (fitting, with the title). I actually hadn't heard this album before that, despite having thought I'd listened to nearly all of his stuff from this time period, so it was fun to find a new album filled with awesome tunes.
