Grapthar's Daily Hive Music Feature: Faraquet - 'The View From This Tower'

Faraquet - The View From This Tower
Faraquet is a band with only one

full length album, but the very first time I listened to it I instantly fell in love with the group. The band is often cited as "math-rock", though by today's definition, that only sort of defines them. They were very much in the vein of Dischord/DC post-hardcore bands of the late '90s, with that emocore influence, but also utilizing interesting odd-meters and much more complex, jazz influenced harmonic ideas. The band only existed from 1997 until 2001, and reunited once after that, but in that short window they absolutely created something entirely their own, which influenced multiple waves of bands that followed, particularly the more defined "math-rock" bands of the 2000s and 2010s. This song is the title track from their 2000 full length release, and is a personal favorite. While it doesn't use any of the odd-meter stuff of their other songs, it is SO groovy, and the tones used are incredible. I definitely recommend the album in its entirety, it is well worth the listen.
