Grapthar's Daily Hive Music Feature: Bogdan Raczynski - 'Samurai Masu Biitsu'
Bogdan Raczynski - Samurai Masu Biitsu
Despite my interest in IDM,
Bogdan Raczynski is an artist I hadn't listened to before today for some reason. He has been in a bunch of playlists I've saved over the years as it turns out, but I guess playing on shuffle has never brought him to the front of the line? I dunno how I missed his tunes, but I rectified that error today haha, and loved what I've heard so far. Raczynski is a Polish musician, who was known for his work using trackers in his early years to create complex, break-beat and jungle influenced IDM. He is on Rephlex Records, owned by Richard D. James of Aphex Twin fame; James cited Raczynski as an influence on his legendary album drukQs, which makes sense listening to Raczynski now. Raczynski had an interesting childhood, moving from Poland to Nebraska at age 7, but then winding up in Tokyo for college. He would wind up homeless in Tokyo, couch surfing and even sleeping on the streets. He submitted a demo to Rephlex before returning to the US, which resulted in a deal. Today's song is from his 1999 album Samurai Math Beats. It's a weird title, but somehow, it makes perfect sense when you hear the songs, haha.
