Grapthar's Daily Hive Music Feature: Atarashii Gakko! - 'Tokyo Calling'

through a few freinds for a few years, but don't think I ever actually listened to their music. The other day, while scrolling Instagram, their newest single and video popped up (a short clip anyway), and I was immediately hooked by the imagery but more so the song itself. I then went back to listen to their other tunes, and was actually surprised, as their previous music is VERY different; a lot of it was much more JPop and JRock influenced, which is also cool and I enjoyed quite a bit of it. But, their 2023 single Tokyo Calling is far and away my favorite from them thus far. The main progression is simple, kind of a phrygian thing, with the 4 members all jumping in and out of vocal duties which are less singing and more sort of chanting or yelling. I also love how the very end of the song the same vocals/patterns continue, but the harmonies underneath move from that E phrygian thing into a G major progression, giving it sort of a hopeful vibe. Really simple, but cool way to change things up.
