Grapthar's Daily Hive Music Feature: Aphex Twin - 'PAPAT4 [155][pineal mix]'

as a friend of mine was in town who is also a huge fan, and we had some time stuck in traffic so we spent it jamming out. We also reminisced a bit on old times, which took me back to the first time I heard Aphex Twin via the Richard D. James Album and its opening track "4" (the album is called that as Richard D. James is the actual name of Aphex Twin). It BLEW my mind, I had never heard anything like it, and in the years since, as he has released more music, it has continued to do just that, constantly pushing my understanding of what is possible through electronic music. Today, I put on James' 2014 album Syro, which is another one that I distinctly remember hearing for the first time. It was James' first full length album since 2001, and really leaned into much more modern sound design and production, but with James' signature style and genius abilities. I definitely recommend it if you're a fan of his early/classic material.
