The Psychological Toll of Fame on Music Legends
If there is something our society really needs to work upon recently, I will say it is changing the mindset that the definition of true success is fame. Recently nowadays whenever someone have this huge Fame, we often tag it as success and something we always want to look upon. This is common in every part of the sector we have in the world but most especially in the music industry.
Whenever I study the life of some of the music legends we have, one might be tempted to actually admire their success and will want to be like them. But the most pathetic aspect is many of us did not know what those guys face behind the scene. Trust me, those music legends we always look upto actually faced a lot of pressure behind the scene.
Ranging from they don't have access to their privacy any longer due to their fame and the fact that they must constantly be in the spotlight to maintain their fan base. Trust me, it can be mentally demanding at times. In the music industry, one of the things I have come to discover about fame is the fact that it can be a blessing and at the same time it can be a curse and at the end, if not well balanced, can have negative effects psychologically.
The fact that as musicians or music legends, you can use your personal identity due to fame is something that bothers me a lot. What do I mean? It is common that when a particular musician becomes so famous, the disadvantage that comes with that fame is that the particular artist lost his own personal identity. The musician will be forced to live on the expectations of his or her fan base. Sometimes, this causes pressure to them that they might not be able to handle it.
Not only that, one of the psychological toll that fame caused for music legends is the aspect of isolation. What do I mean by that? Most of the time, people always think music legends have a lot of friends due to their fame but that is not true. They don't really have genuine friends. In fact, most of them it leads to isolation. Some of them due to the betrayals they have faced from people because of the fake love been shown around them, it makes it difficult for them to trust people again involving their families most of the time. This leads the music legends to live in complete isolation.
Sometimes due to the pressure that comes with those fame demands I talked about, it leads the music legends to result to drug or substance abuse. They want to overcome that mental pressure and most of those music legends we admire end up turning to drugs, alcohol and any other harmful substances to help them overcome their mental issues. This leads them to battle with addiction due to the weight of the fame. These are some of the things I believe the music industry should look into because it is really affecting a whole lot of our music legends. The earlier, the better.
