Quiet Day - March 13, 2023 @goldenoakfarm

Before the storm1 crop March 2023.jpg

They’ve been threatening a nor’easter for days now so I thought I’d get some before photos around the farm on Monday.

Before the storm3 crop March 2023.jpg

There are still some substantial snowbanks from plowing but much had melted.

Before the storm2 crop March 2023.jpg

Tom was quite taken with how straight the melt line was, down the center of the field.

South - daff bud crop March 2023.jpg

And in the South garden up next to the house, there were 6 buds on the daffodils.

I got the kitchen cleaned up and the laundry started, then started checking plant notes against photos. I soon found a discrepancy between where I had planted bulbs last spring, and what garden they were attributed to.

Drawing new maps crop March 2023.jpg

The old maps were at least 6 years old, drawn long before the construction. So I went out and measured and listed what had survived and drew new maps for the South Herb garden and the West Herb garden.

I quit there, as I have extensive measuring, etc to do for the West garden. It will have to wait til after the snow melts.

Playlist2 March 2023.jpg

The Lyme disease has given me sound sensitivity and I’m seldom able to listen to music. But the last 2 days I’ve been able to, so it’s been playing all over the house all day.

I’m pretty firmly stuck in the 60’s and 70’s rock for preferences. My husband had all kinds and decades he liked.

Miss Read crop March 2023.jpg

I’m slowly filling out my collection of Miss Read books. This is the latest one and I spent the afternoon reading and listening to music.

It had spit rain a bit by the time I went to bed. I’ll have to wait to see if we get the storm or not on Tuesday.

the snow line Fairly straight: My guess, those big trees to the right in the pic, are casting an afternoon shadow, and keeping the snows from melting.

I too, and stuck in 60's thru early 80's, for music. Sorry that the Lyme has caused that sensitivity. I do enjoy my music, sometimes a bit tooooo loudly.

Yes, and often he photo doesn't do justice to the farmer who looks and sees something that tells a story about the land! Today (the day after this post) I wore a shirt from the fishing spot from the author's husband... I feel the truck and the snow were a bit of his spirit today... always glad to spend time with them and all the stories they had to tell.

Oh! Those daffodils are going to have a shock of snow. Hope they could survive the sudden drop in temperature.

I will have to start mapping my garden one of these days. I couldn’t remember all my trees nor find them easily now. 🙀😂
