Rabbit crop July 2025.jpg

When I was out wandering around on Monday, this rabbit was by the raspberries and I got within 10’ of it and got this shot.

Monday I woke after 9.25 hours of dead to the world sleep to pain again. I eventually got up and found I couldn’t sit at the computer table to do my post because of the pain. So I went to my chair and used the tablet to check the morning stuff.

Eventually the pain decreased and I was able to get the post up. After resting a while I got a load in the dishwasher.

I had an event at the Senior center at 11:30AM and I was bringing my lunch. I’d decided to make a sort of chicken a la king out of the leftover gravy, a chicken breast, and whatever peas I could find in the garden.

I’d intended to take a photo of the lunch laid out but events precluded it. Anyways, I went out and picked the peas after getting the chicken breast in the oven with my raw garlic, chicken stock, celery salt, fresh basil, Walla onion greens, and pepper.

I was just sitting down to shell the peas when I heard a knock at the door. It was the little girl from next door looking for her cat. The cat has a GPS collar and on her phone it showed it in the wood area by the little shed.

But my brother had mowed there on Sunday afternoon and there was no bright pink collar. Apparently the sensor had survived the mower, but we couldn’t find it.

So we walked around the yard a bit and saw nothing. She wanted to check the barn too, as I’d seen the cat in there before. So we went up and nothing. A sad little girl went home again.

When I got back to the house the chicken was done and I got the peas cooking. I found pretty dishes for everything and made up the chocolate mousse dessert I like.

But before I got that far, the Senior van showed up at 11AM! Apparently I had misunderstood the time they’d come and put the wrong one on the calendar. So he left to get another person and I raced through finishing making my lunch and a shower.

The talk was about what the 9th was about but only lasted 20 minutes. The speaker was very entertaining and we enjoyed the video.

Once I was back home my son’s friend showed up to stack wood. Behind the first bent of the shed, my son had pulled out 3 or 4 rows of wood as it was the driest. So now he has to fill it back in. This is complicated by having lost the center support posts for a couple rows. (A surviving post is on the far right of photo.)

So he has to build what I call “log cabins” at the end of each row. You can see the one for the next row in the right center. They got all the wood in the shed so they can stack even if it’s raining.

All he has left to do is clean up the kindling. The next load arrives on Saturday. That makes 3 cords in the shed so far.

I didn’t do anything else besides take a nap mid afternoon. I was mostly pain free during the day but it returned in the evening. I couldn’t get to sleep until after 10:30PM.

On Tuesday, if I’m not bad, I hope to do broccoli and water seedlings. I must do the seedlings if nothing else. I also hope to get laundry started. We’ll see what the day brings…

Nice catch with the rabbit, does it eat something in the garden?

That's a lot of wood tough

Poor girl, missing her cat

You certainly have interesting activities at the senior center. I think ours only has bingo. I don't hang out there; I don't have the time. I remember when my dad was in his 80s and we suggested maybe he could do some things at his senior center and he said, "I don't want to go there. There's nothing but a bunch of old people there." That cracked me up.

What will be done to all of these woods? Will be used for a bonfire or what?

Sorry to hear that you had back pain and couldn’t do as much as you like to. At least the weather is dry so the rabbit came out to greet you.
Hope the little girl could find her cat soon.
That shed has got so much firewood! It’s a lot of work there!
