Paint It Black Remastered for Day 24 - The 100 Day Project

Before we begin Day 24 of The 100 Day Project let's start with a little quiz.

Without cheating or Googling it complete this song lyric: "I see a red door and I . . ." (Answer later)

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Today was a Coddiwompling sort of day. Hoorah! Hoorah! My very favourite kind of day.

Yesterday I answered the Not Knowing questions referred to a couple of days ago, although I haven't actually posted them yet. Answering those questions left me really wanting to get back to the roots of the challenge and just let things unfold.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Whilst cleaning my teeth and thinking about coming up to the attic, the picture of one of the tables came into my mind. It's normally clear as Rosanna sits there when the days are a bit warmer. But, right now, due to the daily creating, where clearing up is not always top of my list, it's a right mess.

As I pictured the table in my mind the first line of the song "Paint It Black" came to me with the words changed and I thought it might be fun to rewrite the whole thing from the perspective of the messy table.

This is what I came up with:

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Clear It Up

I see a big mess and I want to clear it up
No piles anywhere, I want to clear them up
I see the Christmas Cards, the crackers and the bows
I have to turn my head until my anguish goes

I see a pile of stuff and it's all out of line
Once ordered on the shelves, it is no longer fine
I see people turn their heads and quickly look away
Like a toddler throwing toys it happens every day

I look inside myself and see my head mixed up
I see my table, I must have it tided up
Maybe then I'll create again and not have to sift through junk
It's not easy making stuff when your table's in a funk

No more will my neat shelves lie empty, item free
I could not foresee this thing happening to me
If I work hard enough I'll get the sorted done
My space will then be clear before the morning comes

I was actually very tempted just to dump everything on the floor, out of shot and take the photo of the empty table. 😂 But I ended up getting stuck trying to improve the formatting of the post and was grateful for a chance to walk away from the screen and do something else.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

For the curious amongst you this is the original:

[Verse 1]
I see a red door and I want it painted black
No colours anymore, I want them to turn black
I see the girls walk by dressed in their summer clothes
I have to turn my head until my darkness goes

[Verse 2]
I see a line of cars and they're all painted black
With flowers and my love, both never to come back
I see people turn their heads and quickly look away
Like a newborn baby, it just happens every day

[Verse 3]
I look inside myself and see my heart is black
I see my red door, I must have it painted black
Maybe then I'll fade away and not have to face the facts
It's not easy facing up when your whole world is black

[Verse 4]
No more will my green sea go turn a deeper blue
I could not foresee this thing happening to you
If I look hard enough into the setting sun
My love will laugh with me before the morning comes

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

And, back to my original question . . . I asked it because for all these years I thought the first line was "I see a red door and I want to paint it black". And when I asked a couple of other people they said the same.

What about you? Did you get it right?

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

P.S. I added this picture of one of a series of mantra flags I made at the beginning of the year because I thought it made a much nicer thumbnail than a messy or empty table. 😄

I may or may not get around to posting the story behind them.

That was fun the way you changed the words to the song to go with your cluttered table.

It always feels good to get something cluttery back in order. Now you are ready for tomorrow !

I'm not sure if I ever questioned the words to that song.

Mantra flags. That's kind of neat. Of course you should do a post at some point in time, I mean, why not ?

I love my mantra flags but a post will have to come after the 100 day project is finished if I write about it.

I have no idea what will come after the 100 days.

I never really posted on Hive before now. After Steem there was just the odd blog. Most of the people I was in community with then have long since moved on.

I've no idea if I'll keep going or not. 🤔

Well... if you continue to post, maybe you will get more different ones.

You could make a list as you go of the blogs you could do after, like the mantra flags and then you wouldn't have to think something up. It doesn't have to be every day after.

Of course, that is the sort of thing only you can decide for yourself. :)

Yes. We'll see how it goes. I have plenty of material for blog posts and there are some weekly challenges that I may join in with. I used to enjoy the #wednesdaywalk and #marketfriday plus some #qurator ones. There were some great photography ones that no longer exist but by the end of 100 days I'm sure there will be more I come across.

I like the look of one I came across this morning, heritage or something like that but I don't have time for any other than the 100 days at present. 😊

It would be fun to join some meet-ups too. There used to be a monthly one in London but that no longer runs and many of the people invovled are no longer around. I see ones from time to time in the UK although I've not been to one since before Covid.

Really interesting, the balance between needing a clear space to work and having enough creative mess around you 🙂.

What were the questions that needed answering?

I've never really considered needing creative mess. Not sure I do need it. I seem to spend more time clearing up and using up - trying to stay ahead of the mess.

The questions were from the official 100 Day Project weekly email. I wrote more about them here https://peakd.com/hive-106316/@gillianpearce/circles--not-knowing--breathe--day-22-the-100-day-project. I haven't posted my answers yet. I'm waiting for a slow day when I'm not posting much else. 😁
