Still Young, Still Punk – Three Tune Tuesday
Posting again for #threetunetuesday, thanks to @ablaze and everyone who keeps this simple and fun.
I have no particular theme this week. These are just songs that came up while listening and somehow stayed on.
Millencolin – Lozin’ Must
I have a soft spot for this one because I once tried to learn the guitar solo. It took forever. When I finally managed to play it cleanly, I remember thinking that I can do anything. Feels like a true champion. Obviously I was just young and stupid. Listening it now, it still sounds tight and focused. Fast, but not messy. It’s one of those tracks that reminds me why teenage me picked up a guitar in the first place.
NOFX – Thank God It’s Monday
This song still makes me smile because it takes the whole TGIF idea and flips it for no real reason, which feels very NOFX. Mondays are suddenly great, weekends are annoying, and everything is slightly backwards. That loud, sharp guitar sound is mostly El Hefe doing his thing on lead, with Eric Melvin holding down the rhythm underneath. It sounds busy but controlled, sarcastic without being sloppy. It’s quick, a bit snarky, and gone while the intro still stuck on the ears. Some Mondays honestly deserve this song.
Propagandhi – Anti-Manifesto
This song always feels a bit uncomfortable in a good way. It’s fast, noisy, and the lyrics don’t really try to be friendly. I like this one a lot because later Propagandhi songs started to sound much heavier, almost metal at times, and this track is still very punk. It feels restless and impatient, some beats were off, but they don't care if it comes out messy. It doesn’t explain itself, and it doesn’t really try to win you over.
These days I don’t listen to music looking for meaning. Most of the time I’m just looking for something that fits the moment, usually when I was walking or working.
Some older songs, especially Punk rock or alternative rock, still fit nicely to my ears. I think not because they’re “important” or “iconic,” but because they’re honest. I tend to love short songs, with clear feelings and no extra weight.
So this week’s Three Tune Tuesday is just that, three songs that showed up, did their thing, and moved on. Or, in a Propagandhi manner, “…I don’t even care any fucking more.”
