"Today I want to share a video that is very dear to me. It was 2015, and I was living in Toronto when my band JUNIK performed at the Toronto Jazz Festival at the Painted Lady. On that occasion, we decided to explore a whole set of electronic/jazz improvisation, which represented the sound I loved at that time (and maybe even now).

The musicians who made this evening unforgettable were Steve Pelletier on bass, Michael Occhipinti on guitar, Richard Underhill on sax, and Kevin Turcotte on trumpet. Their musicality and versatility truly shone, creating an extraordinary experience."

THE STORY

"Throwing it back to 2001 when I kickstarted Junik! It all began during my stint hosting a Hip Hop Jam session every Wednesday at Bar Lorca in Stoke Newington, London (UK). After just a few weeks, I got an invitation to play a couple of gigs in Boulogne, France, at a quaint little club (name escapes me!). Funny thing is, they got my band name a tad mixed up - instead of 'JuNK' (JAZZ FUNK), they went with 'Junik' (Unique Jazz)!

Fast forward, I realized there were a bunch of bands already named 'Junk,' prompting me to make a switcharoo in our name. 🔄 So, Junik it became! 🎷🎶
With Junik I have recorded 4 groove based ALBUMS .
I'll post the links in my next blogs.

Cool band. Finding a good name is hard and they can happen by accident. These days it helps to have something unique so people can find you online.
