Happy to be here at the Hive Open Mic, corresponding to Week # 168 with the theme "Music for Children", a proposal made by our featured artist @aly.squid to whom I am infinitely grateful. My user @geronimamunoz and in this opportunity I am accompanied by my friend Mirta Daris in the singing and in the choirs Yanelvis Castellanos, Carlos Armas and Leonardo Zerpa, collaborating for our community.

I decided to create this post, taking advantage of the context of the Music for Children, since it is important that the child population is connected with our Traditional Music of Venezuela, starting from the schools and taking into consideration that they are the generation of relief in order to maintain the national identity in all peoples.

It was a pleasure to prepare this video to show it, we did a previous work of investigation in the town of Guatire, sharing with cultors and people that year after year, are dedicated to maintain the tradition through the Parranda de San Pedro which is the theme that I present to you.

To know a little more about this folkloric manifestation of my country Venezuela, I can highlight that one of the most relevant Traditional Festivities that is celebrated every June 29th of each year, was declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.

I lived a wonderful experience on June 29th, I visited with my family the town of Guatire, where several parrandas of San Pedro from different localities of Guarenas, Guatire, Miranda State met. Everyone gathered early in the morning at the church of the town to start the mass, approximately at 9:00 am until 11:30 am when the brotherhoods of the different brotherhoods such as: 23 de Enero, La Fundación, Virgen del Rosario, Valle Arriba, CEA and Valle de Parairigua came out.

It was very exciting to see so many people fulfilling promises in honor of San Pedro, they go through the streets singing and dancing with their elegant black and red costumes, yellow scarves, black top hats, alpalgatas or cotizas, dancing doing songs and playing to the sound of the Venezuelan Cuatro and the maraca, full of color are presented the Maria Ignacia with her daughter in her arms (rag doll) called Rosa Ignacia, along with the coticeros, among others.

According to information provided by the Cultor Rául González, who has the great responsibility of representing the character of María Ignacia, he says that years ago in colonial times, an Afrodescendant woman named Maria Ignacia asked SAn Pedro to save her sick daughter, named Rosa Ignacia, promising that she would dance and honor her every June 29, fulfilling her promise until she died, At that moment she asks her husband to continue with the promise by dressing up as a woman with her clothes and so the husband fulfilled the legacy left by his wife, being part of the tradition, every year more and more people join this beautiful manifestations where children and teenagers play an important role, from the youngest of the family get involved and enjoy La Parranda de San Pedro with the commitment to continue from generation to generation to preserve the cultural heritage of our country.
