Blending With Music Transition In Nigeria.

(Edited)

The music industry has experienced massive growth in recent times due to the advancement in technology and new ideologies that have been incorporated into the industry. There have been a lot of changes that have to do with songwriting, beatmaking and production in general which has taken music to a whole different level. The argument about which is better between the music back then and now is something a lot of people get into, and I find it unfair to condemn any musician whether from the past or the ones we have today.

Let's put aside the fact that some individuals take it as a profession, music is not easy and those guys put a lot of effort into producing something melodious to our ears. Understandably, the effort they put in varies which is why we rate some musicians higher than others but still, condemning them shouldn't be something we are eager to always do. Every stage of music production requires lots of effort that we do not see, a lot of us can't even get through songwriting so badmouthing these guys isn't really cool.

Being born in the 90s made me experience different types of music both at the foreign and local levels. Being a huge music lover, music means more than the ordinary to me. I pay attention to lyrics and every bit of sound involved, I draw strength and inspiration from music, it influences a lot of things about me and yet, my choice of music is flexible which gives me the privilege to easily switch depending on my mood or need at a particular time.

Music today has improved but I won't deny the fact that it's also lacking in some areas. I remember during my junior school days when I fell in love with Westlife, Michael Jackson and other foreign artists, there was a guy in our compound who played their songs a lot and I learned their lyrics without having to read from those music books sold back then.

I love Nigerian music too but wasn't really into them since I barely understood their lyrics but suddenly, we started experiencing some transitioning in the industry. The likes of Darey, Cohbam, 2face, 9ice and others started emerging and my attention shifted partially from foreign to local music.

Those guys did a great job and paved the way for those we are listening to today. The only difference between them is the message in their lyrics, unlike before when it took months to do just a single, musicians today release songs almost every month while some even do it weekly and it tells in the quality of their lyrics. Regardless, they are doing a good job and for me, there is always an artist or a song that completely meets my need when it comes to lyrics or beat, there is always one I can fall back on so not all the songs out there are disappointing.

Everyone has their taste for music but I don't feel like people can enjoy music sticking to just one artist or genre, exploring the Nigerian music industry made me realize that there are lots of great talents even though they aren't famous yet.

About five years ago, I started listening to a guy called Seyi Vibes. He wasn't as popular as he is now, he had a street personality but there was always a message in his songs especially for hustlers. I was singing the song some time ago and someone gave me this weird look like she wasn't expecting me to know such and I couldn't help but laugh.

A musician's personality or lifestyle sometimes does not define the kind of music they dish out and this particular guy made me look more into street music, it would interest you to know that there are lots of talents out there yet to be heard.

Being flexible with my choice of song never make me bored with music and as it stands, improving more on their lyric is the only advice I have for them. Aside from that, they are doing a great job and even the musicians from the past will definitely be proud of the development in the industry.

I respect everyone's opinion when we do not see things from the same perspective and yes, the industry has its lapses but it isn't as bad as many of us think.

Thank God there are a few artists who still try to pass some good messages in their songs.
I listen to some songs and all I do is laugh... Like wtf.. No message, all about sex, drugs, and the like. The sad part about is seeing a child singing along to it word for word

I think the current musicians are more focused on having great beats which they are actually good at, only a few still pay attention to meaningful lyrics, if asked to chose, my favourite musicians still remains the oldies.

Composing songs isn't easy oo and I give kudos to those singing and producing every time. We draw inspiration from music and this is why I love listening to lyrics; whichever one isn't good, I will discard. I have been able to explore different genre of music and I must say, those artists are trying with amazing talents. #dreemport

I love good music. Like you said, music has evolved, especially Nigerian music. Those days, I remember Usher Raymond, Rkelly, and even the Westlife you mentioned. I loved their music and many people too loved their music including maria Carey, wiltney Houston. But now, who remembers them as such? Our Nigerian aerustes are making us proud and doing good music. Although some have their lyrics soaked in vulgar talks

Composing a music is not easy and they are really trying but not many have a reasonable message. Back then Westlife, R kelly and Celine Dion are my favorite.
