First off a cheers to @WhyWhy who besides me posted more using my Nineties Friday (#NinetiesFriday) hashtag then anyone else! He was a joy to share music with & talk tunes with! He was a daily Hive poster & he sadly passed away two weeks ago. The hive music community will miss him very much! The whole Hive community in fact! Among many more who knew him beyond the screen of Hive. I wish I met the gentleman in person but still we talked music often. His posts were often & thoughtful. Again cheers to WhyWhy! 🎸💿

This week I’m picking “Grunge” era tunes from the bands who didn’t hit it as big as the Nirvana & Soundgarden’s of the scene. But the guys from those two bands calls these four bands there fav’s! Not a joke! 3 outta the 4 are Seattle bands from same scene as the big four Soundgarden,Nirvana,AliceInChains & Pearl Jam and those 4 bands literally call these bands the best outta Seattle. The fourth band is from the California desert 🌵 but had same vibe as the Seattle Grunge vibes. Kurt from Nirvana himself said these 4 were his favorite from the scene and they should be bigger than Nirvana, he even got my first pick (The Melvins) signed and helped produce there major label debut in 1993. I’ll discuss in detail below in the vlog!
Gene’s Nineties Friday Vlog 🎙️(10/17/25)
- Seattle (1991-1994)
- The Melvin’s
- Mudhoney
- Screaming Trees

- The “Grunge” Bands Who Didn’t Get The Mainstream Success But Should Have!
Let’s Go! 🎸

Mostly Seattle with a California desert band sneaking in at the end, I almost made that last one my Bonus Tune but this tune below is from 1986 so it wins the bonus non nineties spot! It’s Andrew Woods previous to Mother Love Bone band Green River! They were the beginning of what was to come so they fit right in!
Band - Green River

I always liked the Screaming Trees, great band. Mudhoney is new to me, but I love their sound. Very Seattle grunge! Lots of great grungy music for today's Nineties Friday!
