This week I’m picking songs that Josh Freese played drums on. Josh Freese is a well known drummer who played drums for bands like Perfect Circle, Nine Inch Mails , Devo, Vandals , Foo Fighters. He was actually a touring full time member if those bands just named. As a strictly studio drummer he’s played on over 200 artists hit songs. Not a joke or exaggeration!

As you might know, for first time in Josh’s life he was kicked outta a band. Last week Dave Grohl told Josh they were moving in a different direction and he was no longer needed. Here’s a funny top ten list of possible reasons why 😂

I’ll pick 10 songs he played drums on! 5 of which bands he was in for a period and another 5 he just played on in the studio as a hired musician.

(1) Good Charlotte - The Anthem
Album - Young & Hopeless (2002)

“Josh Freese played drums on Good
Charlotte's 2002 album The Young and the Hopeless. He contributed as a session drummer during the recording sessions at Barefoot Studios in Los Angeles, which took place from February to May 2002 . The album features the hit single "The Anthem," among other tracks.”

(2) Weezer - Let It All Hang Out
Album - Raditude (2009)

“Josh Freese contributed drums to several tracks on Weezer's 2009 album Raditude, including "I'm Your Daddy," "The Girl Got Hot," and "Let It All Hang Out."

(3) A Perfect Circle - Judith
Album - Mer de Noms (2000)

Josh Freese played drums on all three of A Perfect Circle records in the 2000’s And was an official member of the band not just a hired gun. That’s actually him in the music video above! Normally he’s not included and a hired studio gun but this was actually his band.

(4) The Vandals - My Girlfriends Dead
Album - Hitler Bad, Vandals Good (1998)

Most these tracks we are going 2000’s only but I wanted to throw in one band from the Nineties since he was a official long time member and largely before his career as the most requested and used studio drummer in history.

(5) Offspring - The Noose
Album - Splinter (2003)

Josh Freese played drums on several albums by The Offspring:

Splinter (2003)
Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace (2008)
Days Go By (2012)
Let the Bad Times Roll (2021)

He was never an official member of the band but contributed as a session drummer on these albums. Additionally, Freese served as The Offspring's touring drummer from 2021 to 2023 after Pete Parada's departure.

(6) NIN - Every Day Is Exactly The Same
Album - With Teeth (2005)

Freese was Nine Inch Nails' touring drummer from 2005 to 2008!

Josh Freese played drums on several Nine Inch Nails (NIN) albums and was also a key member of their live band for many years. Mainly from 2004-2009

(7) Devo - Later Is Now
Album - Something for Everybody (2010)

Josh played on Devo's 2010 studio album Something for Everybody, their first in 20 years.

Josh Freese officially joined Devo as their drummer in 1996 and has remained a key member of the band ever since.

Alright I’m getting beat. The last three I’m just gonna pick three songs and post below. These three below are from random albums he was strictly a hired gun on not a member or touring member. These aren’t songs I’m really into like the stuff above but it will round out Josh’s 2000’s appearances.

(8) Avril Lavigne - My Happy Ending
Album - Under My Skin (2004)

Josh apparently co wrote a few tracks on this record but is uncredited.

(9) Puddle Of Mud - Control
Album - Come Clean (2001)

Josh played drums on all tracks of Puddle of Mudd's 2001 debut album, Come Clean, including the hit singles "Blurry" and
"She Hates Me" . Although he was not officially credited on the album. I heard him discuss this. He was paid extra to not be credited cause the band didn’t wanna embarrass there drummer. He could not get it done.

Alright instead of picking a bubble gum pop or whatever band he played on for pay for last on list let’s do him playing with Foo Fighters live! He was in band for only the past two years before being told he was no longer needed last week.

(10) Foo Fighters ‐ Everlong - Gilford NH - Josh Freese 1st Show - 2023

This last one isn’t perfect but you can get idea how good Josh is. With post opening about him being fired I figured we gotta include one of him playing with Foo Fighters.
