Challenge project in ableton by 1xxe "Trapped in the 00's" / Proyecto reto en ableton de parte de 1xxe "Trapped in the 00's" [Esp/Eng]
The main idea of this project was born from a challenge proposed by the record label I'm part of, which consists in that one of the artists of the crew has to choose a sample of his liking, through a draw made by the owner and each artist must make a song/idea based on that sample. This time the sample chosen was the intro of the song "Corazón Delator" by Soda Stereo. The process was simple, honestly; listening to the song instantly gave me the feeling that using it to make a nineties track or even two milero tracks would be ideal. So I was inspired by George Clanton, an artist I like a lot who makes this kind of vintage/vaporwave/ambient songs.
I started by using Ableton's Warp mode to put the sample at the bpm and make it fit well in the boxes, after that I cut it in some parts to achieve a Glitch/Stuttering effect. Regarding the sample that was all. Apart from adding some EQ with a High-Pass filter, Redux to reduce the sample bits and create that vintage/old vibe typical of that 90's era; last but not least, some distortion with our beloved and famous Decapitator. It is also worth mentioning that I reduced the stereo field of the sample with Ableton's Utility to make room for other instruments.
Then I proceeded to create a pretty ambient Pad, typical of the Jungle/Drum and Bass of the time, well known for being used by artists like LTJ Bukem, or Goldie. With 7th degree chords, typical of the Jungle genre, as these generate an intriguing vibe.
As for the drums of the song I decided to sample the intro of the song "Set A Drift On Memory Bliss" by PM Dawn, to enhance that nostalgic vibe of the 90's or hollywood y2k movies. I used several drums as layers to create a homogeneous whole, so in some sections of the track I used a slightly distorted Amen Break with sidechain from the main drum kit, since being so noisy it tends to take a lot of body in the high frequencies and presence in general. For the intro of the song I used a couple more drums that I took from my sample library, one in mono and the other with a bit of stereo to generate an immersive atmosphere.
For the bass I used a reese bass, as it is my favorite type of bass for the intrigue it generates and the presence it has in the mix. This variation I used usually has a lot of stereo field due to the polyphony in the sound design it has. So I reduced its stereo field with a Utility. As a final touch I used a sample I took from my libraries, some bells, full of delay and reverb.
