On November 18, 1974, “The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway”, the iconic Genesis double album and the last studio work with Peter Gabriel, was released.

Two weeks after its release, during a tour in Cleveland, USA, Gabriel informed the other band members of his decision to leave Genesis, promising to keep it a secret until the tour was over.

However, the news leaked out, prompting Peter to write a statement entitled “Out, Angels Out” to explain his decision.

The BBC noted that “the first album contains some of the most visceral and moving music the band has ever recorded.”

On “The Chamber Of 32 Doors,” one of Gabriel's deepest vocal performances can be heard, while “The Carpet Crawlers” became a classic that the band has performed on numerous occasions.

Although the second disc includes highlights such as “It” and “Lilywhite Lilith,” some critics suggested that it could have been edited out.

Despite this, the album is captivating and holds the listener's attention until the end.

“The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway” ranks #9 on Rolling Stone's “50 Greatest Prog Rock Albums of All Time” and #37 on Classic Rock's “100 Greatest Rock Albums of All Time.”
