On 20 February 1996, the Swedish melodic death metal band In Flames released their second studio album, entitled ‘The Jester Race’.

This album not only marked a milestone in the band's career, but also introduced Anders Fridén as a new vocalist and Björn Gelotte on drums, bringing a new energy and direction to their sound.

‘The Jester Race‘ was In Flames’ first release on the prestigious Nuclear Blast label, which represented a significant step in their career and their quest for a wider audience.

The album was notable for its blend of melody and aggression, characteristics that became hallmarks of the Gothenburg style.

It includes two music videos, ‘Artifacts of the Black Rain’ and the song of the same name ‘The Jester Race’, which were the band's first videos and helped establish their presence on the international music scene.

Considered by many to be In Flames' best album to date, “The Jester Race” has earned a special place in the hearts of metal fans.

Along with Dark Tranquillity's ‘The Gallery’ and At the Gates' “Slaughter of the Soul”, this album is considered a classic of the genre, cementing In Flames as one of the most influential and representative bands of melodic death metal.
