“One” is an iconic song by American thrash metal band Metallica, released as the fourth single from their 1988 album ...And Justice for All.
This album marked the debut of bassist Jason Newsted, who joined the band after the tragic death of their previous bassist, Cliff Burton.
The song has been critically acclaimed and is considered one of Metallica's masterpieces, as well as being the first music video the band ever made.
In 1990, “One” earned Metallica its first Grammy Award in the Best Metal Performance category.
Over the years, the song has been reinterpreted by various artists, including Apocalyptica, who performed it in an instrumental version, and Korn, who performed it during the Metallica Icon concert.
The guitar solo of “One” has been highlighted by the readers of Guitar World magazine, who ranked it fifth on their list of the top 100 guitar solos.
In addition, the song is available in the popular video games Guitar Hero III and Guitar Hero Metallica, where his solo is considered the seventh best, according to About.com.
The combination of deep lyrics, powerful instrumentation and a memorable solo has ensured that “One” remains a timeless classic in the metal world, further cementing Metallica's reputation as one of the genre's most influential bands.

Thanks for this post, man. This is one of their great songs. The way it starts and then transitions into that crazy drum section really captures the feeling of war, and the guitars and bass do the same thing during the climax of the song. I first heard Metallica when Jason was in the band. The first concert I saw was their live show in Moscow with millions of people there! :) \mm/
