Three tune Tuesday

Hey!

I just saw a post by @sketch.and.jam under a hashtag #ThreeTuneTuesday, which I guess is started by @ablaze, according to all the previous admissions.

Decided to post a post of my own under the same theme.

Since I got inspired by the 70s style progressive sounds by Al Di Meola, I am now posting three tunes from the progressive 70s. However, these artists are all Finnish.

First one:

Wigwam – Grass for Blades

Wigwam is definitely one of the all time favourite progressive bands in my list, if not the best.

I chose a live performance, because that's got the best keyboard section played by one of the best Finnish keyboardists, Pedro Hietanen, who sadly passed away last year. Ronnie Österberg (drums) left this world in 1980, Pekka Pohjola (bass, violin) died in 2008, Jim Pembroke (singer, keyboards) stepped out in 2021.

They've mostly gone now. But their music is still here.

My second choice:

Piirpauke – Konevitsan kirkonkellot

I'll let their music speak for itself.

The name "Piirpauke" comes from the band's founder Sakari Kukko's Karelian father, it basically means "noise", or "racket".

Last, but certainly not the least:

Kingston Wall – Shine on Me

Kingston Wall, while not strictly a 70s proge band, they drew so much influence from artists like Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, and Pink Floyd, and combined with many other styles, they do have their own place in my progressive recollection. They also share the top places in my list of lists. Kingston Wall was truly something of a phenomena.

Sadly their head figure, Petri Walli took his life too soon, and jumped off of a church balcony in 1995.

Anyway, I sincerely hope you liked this little (and ultimately too short) introduction to the Finnish progressive music scene.

Maybe I'll post more of these some other Tuesday.

See ya!
