Triple death punch

My life hasn't been straightforward; life is like that and most could say the same I suppose. Mine has been complicated, sometimes devastating and brutal, and at other times amazingly enjoyable; a rollercoaster? Sure, let's call it that.

Along the way I've been helped along by people and I'm grateful to them as they have helped me be a better man and live a better life. I don't believe any of us are self-made and through experiencing life, the right and wrong influences included, we can begin to shape life as we wish it to be. I've had other help also; I mean myself. I've educated myself, adapted, overcome and changed as needed and I've looked inwardly to help me do so.

Experiences come and go, people too, but one thing has been a constant companion and that's music.

I have a very broad musical taste and if it sounds good to my ears and moves me, makes me feel something, it's on my playlist and today I want to share three that do just that.

All are ballads by rock/metal outfit Five Finger Death Punch and each reaches inside and takes hold of something put there by my life-experiences, thoughts and feelings. Each are easy to listen to and all of them have powerful videos to go with them so take a look if you have the time.

T1

The first track is called, Gone Away, a cover of a song written by Dexter Holland and originally performed by The Offspring. It's sad and emotionally-charged, unsurprising considering it was written by Holland after his girlfriend was killed in a car accident. The unique vocals of Ivan Moody and musical style of 5FDP brings a sharper edge to the track and, in true 5FDP style, the music video sends a strong message to punctuate the powerful lyrics. The band often tell a story through their videos and this one is no different. Some may not relate to it, but those who do will probably feel it deeply, as do I.

T2

The second track is one of my favourites from 5FDP. It's called House of the Rising Sun and is another cover. Originally released by UK band, The Animals, it was a folk song about a life heading off the rails in New Orleans. The 5FDP version takes that theme and shakes it up a little with the result being...well, you'll have to watch the video. It has some prelude music and lyrics to set the tone, a party atmosphere, and then moves into the storyline in which the lads get down to business, and the actual track itself. It's a very cool track and the video/story is awesome.

T3

The third and last track is called, When the Seasons Change and talks of loyalty, standing tall in the face of adversity and finding the courage to do difficult things. The band faced their own issues collectively through being sued by their record label and as individuals through substance abuse and relationship issues along with other things which were motivation for this track. In typical 5FDP style the video tells a story, in this case of two police officers, and the video is dedicated to Charleston Hartfield, a Las Vegas police officer (and ex-Army veteran) killed in the Route 91 shooting in 2017 in which fifty-nine people were killed; he had placed himself in front of civilians to shield them from the bullets. As you may imagine, the video is full of powerful images.

For me, life seems to go better with music along for the ride. It has the ability to make me feel something and to feel nothing I suppose also as it carries me away to better places. The soundtrack of my life would be an eclectic mix of many different genres and artists if collated together, some have stuck around and some have come and gone along with the ebb and flow of life, but all have had meaning and have helped me live life a little more colourfully.

Design and create your ideal life, don't live it by default; tomorrow isn't promised so be humble and kind - galenkp

People come and go while experiences are embedded in our souls. What sticks to us in odd and even times is "Music". It power is ignites the right strings in our heart to match whatever life throws at us and the music chosen here are not just good. They are great with their lyrics too.

I am still listening.

They're pretty great tracks as far as I'm concerned and those videos are great also. It's amazing how music can impact us so much, don't you think?

It is unquestionable how music brings life into us. The heart and mind are always in Concord wherever there is music. That's what I know.

Gone Away got me in the feels this morning. Damn you!

I never really listened to Five Finger Death Punch much before. I do have a a very vast taste though and will listen to about anything from old folk to metal, depending on my mood. Music is a constant, and does help with the coping sometimes.

Yeah, it does that to me too.

I like 5FDP as they have been through the shit personally and aren't afraid to call themselves out on it, they support veterans and the music just sounds good. Maybe give some a listen sometime.

I've already added it to my to-do list for today to look up some of their music and add to my playlists.

Scan through, depending on your mood some may not be appropriate, but there's some good ones. I Apologize is one of them. You may like it.

Life is bittersweet and that is why we sometimes have some songs that will focus on the bitter part and some that will focus on the good part.
Music is life itself

These are some pretty powerful songs; it was a helluva way to start my day today.

Music is like any other art in that it really is meant to evoke an emotional response from the listener. It doesn't always need to be positive - some of the best, in fact, is not.

The House of the Rising Sun was my favourite of the three. I'm honestly not usually a fan of super hard rock, but they did a bang up job on that. Interesting video, too. Again, not necessarily positive, but pretty rockin'.

Yeah man, it's not typical Tuesday morning listening I guess.

House of the Rising Sun is my favourite out of the three also. The video isn't the most wholesome thing in the world, but the song is stonkin'.

Powerful. I didn't even really care for the third one, but, it brought out emotions when tied to the video.

There are some songs that wouldn't be my first choice, but pair them with a good video and it will be the thing I see when I hear it. It has a way of making an okay song stand out. It touches different places.

Give me some of that House of the Rising Sun, but for some reason, the video doesn't sit well with me and I cannot unsee it. Emotional response? Yes. I like the music but the video pushes me to places I don't like.

I lean into emotionally charged music unless I am mellowed, where only the best classical will do.

Happy Three Tune Tuesday.

Hi, Galen!

Yeah, when listened to people hear words and some music, both of which a person may not like...but the visuals in the video add a different element. Humans think in pictures, not words, so there's no wonder.

The video of the House of the Rising Sun is dark I guess, not wholesome at all, but I guess the song (even the original version) speaks of the danger in travelling that path. It doesn't give me the feelings you had, but I guess we've had different experiences in life and maybe that's why.

I lean into emotionally charged music unless I am mellowed, where only the best classical will do.

My playlists are so incredibly varied and I can't call one genre a favourite. If I feel it, I'll listen to it.

I'm sorry one of my tracks made you feel things you'd rather have not.

I've always liked the song, but because of the senseless violence it evokes? It is almost too real. Perhaps the conditions of the world?

Humans do think in pictures. Which is why a kick butt video can carry a mediocre song.

Perhaps the conditions of the world?

Absolutely the condition of the world, turn on the6pm news and there it is.

Humans do think in pictures. Which is why a kick butt video can carry a mediocre song.

Remember the video for the Macarena for instance? So dumb, (the song too), but look how successful it was. There's thousand others.

Exactly that and like you said, thousands of others.

But, I have to wonder why shock value garners so much value? In so many ways, it softens the impact of real-life horrors on young people. Or perhaps I think like an out-of-touch listener. :)

I'm not sure, maybe people are attracted to the things they don't do or can't, or they feel fascinated by it? I have no idea. Why do people denounce firearms and violence and yet are so attracted to violent and, in my opinion, disgusting video games? A conundrum.

You are absolutely right about the video that goes along with a song...

When I first listened/watched this song/video, I missed the 10-15 seconds of the beginning of the video. So I was all happy and tapping my feet. When I saw the ending it moved me...

Then I listened/watched again. It moved me to tears.

Yep, this Bad Ass KrazzyTrukker wept. What a video can do to a song is simply amazing... @dswigle @galenkp

Experiences come and go, people too, but one thing has been a constant companion and that's music.

And speaking of music, your leading phrase here immediately put the Beatles in my head. There are places I'll remember all my life though some have changed....

Anyway, listened to all three. The first was powerful. I honestly couldn't finish it. Too emotional. The second was great. What a fantastic cover! The third was also pretty powerful. Great story there.

All good picks. Music is great!

I must the the odd man out, I never liked The Beatles. I know some songs and they're ok I guess, but they never made me feel much despite the hype around the band.

I'm glad you liked the tracks. 5FDP aren't for everyone but I like the messages in the tracks, these in this post and others, and they sound good to me when I'm in the right mood for it.

I had never heard of the Five Finger Death Punch, so clicked on House Of The Rising Sun first cos I know that song.
Wow was I surprised when I it began, not what I was expecting at all.
The guys voice though, very impressive and they done a good cover, plus the video was really cool as well.
Music has got me through so very difficult times of my life too. It's wonderful medicine.
Thanks for the introduction xxxx

It's a great song. The original and this cover, in my opinion anyway. The beginning of the video, the music at the start, is *just for the video, on the album it doesn't have that part. The actual track is awesome though right?

My playlist is one clusterf*ck of genres and languages, but I like it that way, why limit music to just one language and a few genres?

My playlist has everything a person needs; for the good moods, the bad, chill, and not so chill. Starting with my own language of Bangla, to the Blues, and even some French hip-hop or rap music, I've got it all covered haha.

For a while this song has been "the vibe", it's just electrifying.

I've listened to some his other songs too, and Wolf was something else, he had a voice like no other. There's even a scene of this song in the movie Cadillac Records (2008) and I'd say the actor did good job portraying Wolf.

Music is life for me, I listen to a lot of it and, as soon as I can, I take some time out to strum my guitar.
I really like the three tracks you shared, but I knew the first one in the Offspring version that I love!
When I was a boy I listened to them a lot they were one of my favorite bands.

We also agree on musical genres eh eh!
Let's say that I really listen to a lot of music of many different types, I also like classical music, I'm a Metal fan, but I also love pop music; perhaps by far the genre that I prefer is that of Epic metal.
As for the favorite band, there are many that I adore but the number one in my heart and always will be Linkin Park.

You know I play three instruments so I understand completely. I'm connected to music and think I'll always be.

I never listened to The Offspring and other than knowing they performed Gone Away I don't think I could name one of their tracks. I listened to their version of Gone Away yesterday though, and it's pretty good.

You have a wide musical taste, and that's how it should be Intjimk.

Thanks for commenting.

music is really a panacea; I've been thinking lately that I would like to try playing some other instrument.
I was also learning to play the otamatone heh heh!

At Christmas I gave my wife a guitar, in the past I had a decent collection of 6 guitars 😉

Six guitars? You're a rock star bro!

Eh eh no I actually liked to collect them; I had an electric and a classical one, then I bought a dobro and two other studio guitars; the last sixth was from a friend who wanted to sell it, we had played a lot when we were kids and it was a gift from his father ... so as not to let it get into the hands of strangers, I bought it.

Unfortunately now they are no longer in my possession, it's a long story maybe one day I will tell it.
In any case, in the meantime I bought two more, recently guitars, let's say the studio ones, they're just fine for strumming.

It's good to have varied interests and why not guitars right? Do you play well?

0

Yes, I really like guitars; let's say that I'm doing well, when I was young I was even better, it must be said that I played a lot more, today I'm a little out of practice, but basically it's a bit like riding a bicycle, isn't it?

Most skills such as music are perishable and so must be practiced to maintain them. If a person enjoys it, then the practice won't be difficult to do, but finding the time to do it might be.

Yes, unfortunately it's always a matter of time, currently the days are really full and the night for now I need to sleep eh eh!

But give me some strumming I still happen to do it, let's say that when I was young I played every day and it actually makes a difference compared to doing it once in a while.

But in the future I'll have time to do it and yes learn to play drums and I'll sax heh heh!

It is so true a good video can give the extra umpf to a piece of music. It is also true that I rarely 'watch' music. For many reasons, I use audio platforms to listen, but rarely video platforms. Anywaysszzzz.... I shall up my game and try some more music vids. Maybe am missing out on something {TURNED SMILEY} NJOY ;)

I mostly listen, I'm not much of a video watcher and rarely go on YouTube etc. Although, I'm always happy to watch powerful music videos like these. There's a lot of really great ones out there and they certainly add something to the song itself.

I've been listening to them for a long time, thanks for reminding me again of their existence! Right now, I'm getting high to Wrong Side of Heaven.

I remember being recommended this band as my favorite). And it was a girl...)

indeed, when listening to music makes us happy and the important thing is that we are happy ourselves, we don't think about it more than others and when we are happy listening to music, everything is not in our minds because we are already happy ourselves, others don't care.

I'm not sure I fully understand your comment, but I guess the gist of it is about music making us happy...It also makes us sad though, and every other emotion besides I think.

'I have a broad taste in music'

'Here are three of my top tunes, all from the exact same band'

Lolz - kidding aside, I'm actually pretty ashamed that I grew up completely on rock, metal, punk. FFDP somehow never made it to my ears, so I'll be checking the three out in the shower!

Modern tech, eh?

I enjoyed the tracks - they kind of reminded me in some way of Killswitch Engage, not specifically their sound exactly, but the notion of tension (heavy metal, growls, screams, distortion) and release (smooth vocals, subdued guitars).

This is how I fell in love even with Cradle of Filth. Not for the heaviness itself, but for the moments in between the chaos that... punches you in the face with emotions in contrast

Because like Me. I bet when your sitting fireside, it is not the place for music. The crackle of the fire. The sounds of the wild are a music all it own. And that makes the times we listen to great music like this all the better. 🎶🎵🎶

Five Finger Death Punch!! Now that's what I call a band name... I heard of them through #ttt actually as they have been in some people's selections.

I was expecting them to be heavier and therefore maybe not really my cup of tea, but was pleasantly surprised and particularly likes their version of the classic Animals track. I'll be checking out more of their stuff now for sure. The videos are great too. Great to have you aboard for a Three Tune Tuesday and looking forward to hearing what tunes you bring tomorrow 👌

They have some heavier stuff, some you'll not like I think, but wrong side of heaven and I apologise might be worth a listen. The great thing about mueiluc is that it costs nothing to give it a try but the potential value it huge.
