Thinking

The less men think, the more they talk.

- Montesquieu -

Someone asked me what I've been doing lately and because I don't like to tell people exactly what's going on in my life, it's none of their business, I answered generically. She expected that, she knows me well and that sometimes I need prompting to open up a little more so she asked follow-up questions and managed to get an answer that satisfied her curiosity and made the communication valid, an actual conversation.

Afterwards I was thinking about one of her questions which was, "have you built any Lego lately?" Unfortunately, my answer was no, I've not had the time, which stuck with me and is why I've been thinking.

Since that conversation I've tried to work out why I've not built any Lego for a fairly long time and, being busy or having no time, were the only reasons I could come up with but...shouldn't I make time for the things in my life that I enjoy doing and shouldn't finding those moments be a priority? Well fuck yeah they should, life is short. Shame on me for not making them a priority.

With this in mind, I have a new attitude and mindset around the enjoyable task of building Lego, I've begun the search for a Lego set (Lego Technic) that might become my next build.

I have no clue what I want to get although I'm leaning towards something automotive and maybe a mining vehicle. You can see the last mining vehicle I built in the image above, A Volvo A60H, a remote control mining dump truck of over half a metre long and can see a post on that build here if you like.

I'm pretty keen on this Liebherr Crawler Crane LR 13000, but it's pretty fucken expensive so I'm not sure if...hmm...here I go again making excuses for why I won't do something I enjoy. Anyway, I'm still thinking and no matter which Lego Technic set I decide upon I'll enjoy it...I think I deserve a little enjoyment, we all do right?

People always ask questions but intelligent people avoid them. Some questions are also asked about many secrets of life. Especially "What are you doing?" The question is a source of insult to most people because many people are not doing well. It is better that you do not tell others what is happening in your life. Nice to know you can build legos, everyone loves it.

Yeah, I don't trust people who don't like Lego! 😁

Hi Galen, totally agree, we all deserve a little fun. I just took the day off yesterday. I had been preparing for it for a while. Then it went awry in the afternoon and didn't turn out as free as I had hoped.

By the way, that Lego Liebherr Liebherr Crawler Crane LR 13000 looks like a very good fun.

Fun is definitely not overrated, it's a necessity. It doesn't have to come with great cost either, but the cost upon a person for not having fun can be high.

Yep, it's a legit Lego set...I'm not sure if I'll get it but...maybe I will.

Having fun is a necessity, I fully agree. About the Lego set, I'm already imagining it in a publication.... maybe in another Lego photography.

Over here the day is going well, now I have some free time and in a few minutes I'll be back to work....

Yeah, for sure I'll post about it and if I decide to get something else I'll do that one as a post.

I hope you have a good day, mine (work) is at an end. Relaxing tonight. Yay!

Of course you deserve a little bit on enjoyment. Every hard working individual should make some time off for their own enjoyment as well as achieving their aims.

I believe with or without excuses you will come out with a lovable and enjoyable Lego.

I was delighted to see the publication of the Volvo, especially the issue of the dimensions, by putting your hand and arm on it you can get a rough idea of the size, which is more difficult to get from a photo. On the other hand the crane is a great idea!

Doing from time to time what we enjoy fills the soul... we should all do that... and not overlook it. It is necessary to dedicate that time to ourselves.

Yeah, giving it some perspective helps. I'm keen to get something else started, just not sure what.

Surely in a few days that idea will present itself to you, it will come on its own, you'll see.

Many times I fall into the dilemma of how I should use the time available. For others, I spend too much time on myself. I don't think so, but feelings of guilt arise. Am I really being selfish?

There's a fine line between self-care and selfishness; one will replenish a person's entire being and the other will consume a person from the inside out.

Wow your reflection slapped me in the face too. It's amazing how I have pulled away from the things I loved to do the most and also blame it on work and lack of time, knowing that I did open up space for other things. We need to get back to ourselves and I've been thinking that lately.... Your words tell me you will get back to your legos, I feel you are determined to make the most of the time, good luck with it bro, happy day!...

Hey, this community is great! ✌️

Whoa, I had no idea Lego had such advanced kits! Is this a project that your nephew will assist on or will he be getting his own kit to build? Either way it will make the time spent together even more meaningful.

And yes, you absolutely deserve to indulge in your passion and reap the enjoyment of it! Go for it😀

Some Lego is just for me, my nephew is good at building but these ones I build are pretty complicated, pretty large and a couple little errors at the start means they don't work. Not something I'll let him do. He'll get another one to do with me and him together, I'm thinking the Lego Technic Ducati Panagale and a Peugeot 9X8 24H Le Mans Hybrid Hypercar I have my eye on as well. We'll see. They all cost money and take time, I don't want to spend all my time with him building Lego. I'm an outdoorsman and want to impart that to him so we'll be out and about.

I find building Lego Technic to be relaxing. I get some snacks, coffee, some country music and I'm good to go for a few hours. I do other stuff of course, I'm sort of multi-faceted.

It's nice to have something so immersive that you lose yourself and have no concept of the passage of time. That can literally rejuvenate your soul. I took a look at the crawler crane and see now why your nephew will choose another kit for you to work on together. It is very advance.

I have no doubt that you'll be able to teach him as much about the outdoors as you will with the Lego. He may teach you something about mountain bike racing in return lol. It's a win-win!

I have an old technic forklift set that is pretty cool. I loved that thing when I was a kid. I am sure I still have all the parts to make it in my bin, but I don't know if I still have the instructions. I heard the other day that we are getting a Lego store in the town where I grew up. It might be cool to checkout sometime. I don't think it's an official store, but like a resale shop and a creative space.

That Lego store you have coming could be good, although it could also be costly.

Yeah, I have a feeling some of the pieces are going to fetch a pretty penny.

That crane looks so mint. I'd love to get that to work with my boy but yeah, cost is bad.

Have you heard of Lego's sound bricks? They seem like a neat idea but how "programmable" they are would be interesting. If you could put a bunch together and make a big speaker that would be cool. I suspect not though.

I want to get some of the Lego robotics kits so as to teach Little Wookie about robotics. They're not as easy to find here in NZ as I'd hope.

I've never heard of those Lego sound things, not all that interested to be honest, I prefer the more original stuff rather than the stuff.

This dump truck of yours is a serious project (both time-consuming and expensive). My friend assembled a Ferrari, probably about a 70cm long car..
and me? I assembled this little one a few months ago (I chose a car, and I could have chosen to assemble an airplane or some construction machine).

Holà! 🙃😆

Question: do you disassemble your legos afterwards?...? I'm just asking out of curiosity and also because my son wants to keep his...I wonder if this is like an unwritten law for 'Lego People'. 🤔🤭
Also I have kept all the boxes. Good thing we have enough room.
Do u keep the boxes too?

Sometimes, I wish for my son to disassemble his legos only so he could build them again and practice...but appareatly, this is not an option! 😁

I keep the builds rather than than taking them apart and yes I keep the boxes, it makes sense. Eventually I'll take them apart and send them to my niece and nephew to enjoy.

I see! Thanks for letting me know 😊.
It's nice that you have someone to share them with, in the end. So when u buy a Lego set, you already know someone will benefit from it one day, like your nephews. 🙃

I hope everything is well for you, in that part of the world. 🇦🇺
