Impetus to move

There's many things that moves a human being to feeling, and there's many feelings people experience: Hate, love, fear, happiness, sadness, desperation, courage, boredom, desire, love, pity, shame, disgust, honour, anxiety, envy, contempt, amusement, loneliness, compassion, greed and hubris, sorrow, depression, pride, awe, offended...you get the idea I think. Events and situations in life, thoughts and attitudes and, of course, other people, lead us to feel such things and through them we are led to thought, decisions and action and so the cycle begins again.

One of the things that moves most humans is music, and thanks to the limbic system in our brains, a system that helps process emotion and memory, hearing music moves us to think and feel things.

Imagine hearing this song at a moment in your life when you've just experienced a major disappointment and were already feeling lost, doubtful and a little fragile when it came to your sense of self. Would it improve your mood, emotions and thoughts, or would it magnify them leaving you feeling worse?

Now imagine yourself heading to a friends place on Saturday evening for some food and drinks and to hang out with some great friends to farewell one of them before they take an extended working holiday overseas for a year. You're in the Uber car listening to your playlist and this track comes on. Do you think it'd make you feel happy or sad, put you in a good mood to spend a fun evening with your friends or leave you feeling depressed and unwilling to even go and hang out?

I once listened to this music all day driving around in my car doing my job prior to going go-kart racing. I used to race go-karts years earlier and was always focused and very intent upon the goal of winning at the time. I took no prisoners out on track and whilst I raced cleanly was committed and didn't need much to get me in the mood. How do you think listening to this music would have made me feel all day and especially when I was sitting in the go-kart with my visor down? I can tell you, hyped up! Racing around at over 100kph in a go-kart that sits an inch off the ground with this track running through my head...well, let's just say there was carnage...visited upon other racers.

Music is one of those extraordinary things that moves us to feelings and emotions and also away from them and towards better thoughts and actions. I've turned to it in the past for inspiration, not just through listening to it but through creating it as I played my piano, or the bass guitar and trumpet in a jazz band back in the day. I'm not in a band these days, but I play my piano still, and listen to music every single day of my life. I'd feel quite lost without it.

Do you have a particular track that moves you? Maybe you've got a track you think I might like to hear? Feel free to comment below and drop the links, or just comment in general if you'd like.

What do you think of surf rock instrumentals, like The Ventures? If that's your jam, here's a late-90s oddball track from a California ska revival band. More of a cruising song than a racing song, I admit, but speeding tickets may result nonetheless.

Oh yeah, this would have resulted in on-track carnage also. It's all about the beat.

To be honest I could probably listen to Johannes Brahms, Double concerto in A minor, and still be in the right frame of mind to slay on the race track. It's just how I'm built. 😊

Thanks for commenting and sharing this track, one I've not heard before.

Well, it would be boring to share a Metallica track everyone has heard for 40 years. Local bands, niche genres, and weird 90s Christian rock are my bailiwick, I guess.

This is true. There's some tracks that just need to be played over and over, but to do so at the exclusion of other great options seems somewhat closed-thinking.

Bailiwick

This is such an underused word.

AI will have no chance if trying to emulate such literary style as you possess.

@themagus usually shares a lot of music but he's been slack for a couple of weeks (at least I hope he's been slack/busy, last I heard was on an overseas trip to visit family).

Sibling dearest, middle child and I have this habit of listening to either a playlist or a single track on loop when we're doing something that requires some level of concentration and that particular list or track is the correct mood XD Or we're making an amv in which case looping the track is kind of unavoidable XD

Have you done that?

Yep, for sure I've had tracks on loop or playlists. I actually have music playing a lot when I write, not just for Hive writing, mostly for my fictional stuff that the blockchain will never see. Quite often it's instrumental and suits the tone and mood of what I'm writing at the time. I find it works well, shifts me into the scene and makes me writing more real.

I think an album that will never grow old to me and has lots of memories is Van Halen's 5150 album. There is a memory of some sort, happy and sad, for every song on that album for me.

A great band! The first record I ever bought was their 1984 album, 1984. I've got them all though, on record and CD and also Spotify these days. Good music for sure.

You just cannot be anything but happy listening to that! I'll be hearing that in my sleep. The impact is swift and immediate with the music. It doesn't sneak up on me, it grabs me.

I always loved Van Halen, the videos only made them better. Could that be possible? I am more of a song fan than a group, I have rather eclectic tastes, and the harder rock for cleaning and soft and classical when mellow is in order.

I love rock n' roll...So put another dime in the jukebox, baby. Not tonight. Shoot me, I love Boccelli and Ed ...

It's late, but this is what I have on now:

You hit it out of the park with this! A great song by a couple of legit dudes. It makes sense that you're listening to it, and now I am too. I first heard this a little while ago and loved it the moment I did. So cool.

And yep, Van Halen for sure. No doubt. ✅

Honestly, I love the feel of Bocelli's lush vocals that has introduced many to opera. I especially like some of the collaborations he has done. I never tire of this talented tenor.

But, hey! When I think of someone that will always be true to his art, I think of Eric Clapton, I think he is still loved, by at least four generations of kids.

There's so many good artists and if given the chance I think people would be pleasently surprised by them. I'm so glad I'm not closed-minded and am happy to give things a try. It means I miss out on less.

The song you uploaded can be listened to when someone is heartbroken
Well, there is a music for every kind of mood. There is one for happiness, sadness and a lot more. Music is life

Uhhhggg. The Rave Music.!!

It makes my brain hurt. It reminds me of a record skipping. That is pure madness to me. I Never liked the "I am tripping on meth or molly music" with all the sweaty, stinky, stoned kids convulsing horribly to it... LoL (weird huh?)untitled.gif

Hey have you heard the song they wrote about my deck..?

I have such varied and weird taste in music, not many people understand it but like you say, there's music for every type of mood and event, it's up to us to choose wisely.

Hope you're well G-Dog 🙃

It's about how music makes us feel I guess and we don't need to justify it right? I think a varied musical taste shows depth of character.

All good, the G-dog is rarely out of sorts. Hopefully you're ok too.

Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, inspired by F. Schiller's ODE to JOY. That alludes to so much faith in humanity. It was the first symphony with the human voice as an instrument of the orchestra, and that is why the work is also known as the "Choral Symphony". In my being when I listen to it, it produces a lively and joyful emotion inside me that sometimes almost makes me cry but of a lot of joy, Galen. I have a nice collection that I inherited from my dad.

That's a great piece on music indeed, and it's nice you inherited a great collection from your dad.

That's the way Galen is and music always makes me feel free to do my dance with life, wherever, however I can, but music is medicine for the soul. It is a liberating exercise of thought and feeling...

You know, couldnt live without music :-) it can bring you everywhere within seconds.
Cars driving music reminded me of a time I drove 3 hours a day having a CD with hundert mp3s to survive this ;-)
One of those great driving songs to keep me awake was this one

Music is extraordinary and the tunes shared affect the mood we are in.

Sounds of music help make what we feel underneath be let out depending on our mood and I love each tunes presented.

I hardly listen to music. I don't hate music but I don't know why I don't listen to music normally. I strongly believe that music has some kind of power which can heal us, and boost our energy. I felt it several times when I listened to music. Instead of knowing that I have one question for myself, that is why I don't listen to music regularly. Isn't it strange?

It was said that music is the language of the soul. Every music brings message to the listener and every music has a message from the creator of it.

I love to listen music that brings good message.

That Blade track is one of my favs, even though the scene it comes from was pretty grim, LOLZ! Yes, music is definitely a driving force for most of us I think, well it absolutely is for me and not only does it amplify a mood, but can also shift it.

There is a track which I could listen to on high volume about a thousand times a day... it really picks up my energy levels!

Ah Toploader, have not heard this one in a while, absolute classic. For me music never makes me feels worse, even if it is a sad or depressing song. It will either resonate with the low mood I'm in if it is downbeat or will lift my mood if it is upbeat.

Emeli Sandé has a gorgeous voice, good shout sharing that one. As for Blood Rave, I can just picture you when the race started and you let rip in to the first bend taking the racing line and leaving the field in your wake. I used to love karting when I was younger, I'd rarely finish any worse than 2nd among my mates, as I would always really go for it, as I tend to do with most things, I have that competitive edge.

Note to self: Prepare for titanic battle on the go-kart track with Ablaze.

Hive go-kart challenge huh? Lol. I love go-karting although haven't been for a little while now. I wonder if I'd be the same on-track. Probably would.

"Maybe you've got a track you think I might like to hear? " .... errrr, about a quadrillion.... do you have the time? {grin}

Music and moods is like temperature.... it cannot be ignored. One can try ignore heat or cold but it impacts one even if ignored... music does the same... even if the reaction is just indifference. I hope I am correct in thinking this applies to almost any human being... I always say that if music does not move you... you have no soul ...there... I said it!!
