Girl-person picks

avatar

girl-person.jpg

There's reasons I rarely talk about my girl-person here and there's many other aspects of my life I don't share because I want to keep them private and retain most of my life for myself and those that share it with me. Having said that, today I decided to put some girl-person music content on the blockchain.

Last night I asked her to list three tracks she loved. I thought I'd know which she'd choose and that she'd list them pretty quickly but she felt pressured and wanted to get it right whatever that actually means, so spent a disproportionate amount of time selecting her tracks. She struggled to narrow it down to less than ten...ten tunes Tuesday works I guess, but the theme is three so I asked her narrow it down.

Hey girl, I need three, not ten. She got the message.

T1 Zack Brown Band: This is a great track from a cool band and the video is cool too. The band has been around for a while and I've followed them since they formed around 2002. My girl person is a recent convert because I play their tracks a lot; there's a few she's not into but mostly she likes them and this one is a good pick.

T2 Forest Blakk feat. Meghan Trainor: My girl-person likes Meghan Trainor and got onto this track through her. She's now a Forest Blakk fan also; they're both good artists despite me not being much of a Meghan Trainor listener and this is a nice track and one she likes a lot.

T3 Warren Zeiders: She likes this one because it reminds her of us. I'm not inclined to say much more but isn't that just like music; it has the ability to make people feel much more than simply, I like that song.

My girl and I spend a lot of time listening to music together and it's usually playing in the background when we're doing chores, DIY, gardening, playing board games, on picnics, cooking and eating and relaxing together - all the time really. We have some different tastes in music but like a lot of the same things too and often talk about the music we listen too and certainly select it for the mood we're looking for at the time. We love sharing music and swap tracks between us when something pops up we think the other will like which is a lot of fun, unless the other doesn't like it of course. What we have in common though is the love for music and how it forms the soundtrack of our lives that plays as we live them.

Do you and your partner share a love of music and share tracks between you? Do you have similar tastes in music or do you both like different things? Feel free to comment below if you feel inclined, I'm always happy to hear from you.

Design and create your ideal life, don't live it by default; tomorrow isn't promised so be humble and kind - galenkp

Lol! Love this - my wife and I are similar I think. We have terminally different taste on the outer edges, but there’s a big area where we overlap in tastes, so we can both still show each other things we’ll like. She showed me Bon Iver and Matt Maeson, I showed her Animals by Pink Floyd and Jethro Tull’s Thick as a Brick! Cool post brother, I also tend to keep my family and Hive separate, but once in a while I do think it’s cool to see small nuances of one another’s lives outside the chain…it kind of makes us all feel a little more socially connected somehow.

I know couples whose musical interests are like two positive ends of a magnet which I wouldn't personally like. I'm glad my girl and I have similar tastes and some different too, it keeps things interesting. Sometimes she'll tell me she hates something I like and that's ok, I don't mind. I like that we can exchange music, as you do with your wife.

I'm not on any other social media and don't understand why people feel obligated to share so much about their private lives. I've had people enter my #weekend-engagement concept and put images of their entire credit card on their post...Seriously bonkers. Having said that, there's room to open up a little here and there, showing who we are, some personality, isn't a bad thing. Caution must be taken of course.

Agreed on the caution, and also I don’t want my posting to be about my family because then I feel like when I spend time with them I’ll be too busy trying to catch good shots, or subconsciously planning the day around what would look good in a post. This was tastefully done and I thought it was a cool way of doing it. Also, if I’m being honest, my wife hated Thick As a Brick! Lol but she loved Pigs, so I feel ya there - half the fun is seeing her reaction because I never know for sure whether or not she’ll dig my selection

Oh yeah, I wonder how many people think of it like this. Few I think. Well said though, indeed.

That’s awesome to see you shared a few tracks for #TTT! I do like a good zack brown band song, they’re a pretty good group! I’ll give these tracks a listen to tomorrow while I get the workday started.

It’s funny, my wife and I don’t see very eye to eye on music. I’m more into the electronic stuff right now with chilled out beats and just mellow stuff. This is one of my favorite tracks and is the kind I listen to quite regularly, especially during work to just have some stuff going on in the background. It’s got an awesome electronic jazz vibe to it!

Ssiena though, she prefers things that she can dance a little bit to but not the ultra clubby stuff. She also likes 90’s songs. She’s kind of got strange music taste to be honest lol it’s very isolated sadly!

I've done six or so up to this point so far and will do them when I feel I have something to add. The #TTT concept isn't a bad one at all and whilst I don't get involved with many, I wanted to support this one for @ablaze.

I think it's ok for a couple not to have similar musical tastes, although I prefer that my girl and I actually do. Wee disagree on a few things from time to time, but there's room for that in any relationship, or should be.

I'm not much into electronica although there are some exceptions. I guess my musical tastes are so varied there's room for most things. I prefer not to follow a genre, opting for a song by song basis. I don't care who makes the music, if I like it, I like it. Yes, if it's Taylor Swift...although Dustin Beaver...I draw the line there. Lol.

That track you linked. I know someone producing it personally, (found on Spotify), and whilst it's not my thing, I don't mind some of it.

I am not inclined to put my business here or any other social media platform. Would you sit down at Starbucks or Tim Hortons, with a perfect stranger and start telling him all about your personal life?

Exactly.

I like sharing music. I pretty much listen to an eclectic mix and there is very little I don't like. Except for the occasional country song, I'm pretty good.

Agreed, the amount people share online with strangers is bonkers.

You don't like country music? That's somewhat of a surprise. Or, maybe you mean, occasionally you find one unlikeable.

Aren't you glad I am so clear with my thoughts at the end of the day? :) That is exactly what I mean and I want to thank you for being able to decipher my words.

Good morning from here and I forgot to add, it was so nice hearing about your girl-person for a change. She sounds good for you!

So that's who Warren Zeiders is! I'm a big Warren Zevon fan and would always see Zeider's name while searching for Zevon, had been wondering if it was some sort of parody of Zevon. Lol, not even close.

My partner and I both share a love of music, although the sorts of music diverge considerably. It's actually kind of how we got to know one another better, when we were first starting to hang out we spent much of the time taking turns playing songs for one another. Eventually we ran out of new stuff to play but we still enjoy sharing tracks anytime we come across something good.

Lol, I can imagine it...Zevon parody! Lol.

I like how you guys swapped music as a way to get to know each other; just another way music demonstrates how awesome it can be and how it brings people together. On the new stuff...I don't like much of what they play on the radio and have to go searching for my new music which isn't a problem. The mainstream (radio) stuff is heinous mostly.

I always meant to check Zeiders out but would put it off until after I got my Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner fix and then forget about it.

I have a private theory that you can learn far more about people than they realize from their music interests. It definitely served to help bring us together. They were with me at the protests back in 2020, now we sometimes reminisce by playing music from those wild days. I think we are in total agreement on the new stuff. There's some good stuff still getting made but you won't find it on the radio.

My girl person loves music so much that she finds it hard to concentrate on much else... she'll put on some background music, usually way too loud, and then regardless of whatever we're talking about, interrupt with a comment about the current song playing - it's all super cute.

She's into music a lot more than I am, so I think she's influenced me a lot and I've influenced her a little, and I think she's also super struggle to just select 3 tracks she loves. I don't think she could just list 3 she loves, because she'd want the songs she picks to help identify who she is and what she cares about. I know so many of her favourite songs and I have no idea what she'd pick.

I like her already!

and then regardless of whatever we're talking about, interrupt with a comment about the current song playing

Cute sure. Annoying also. But that's how it should be.

Maybe it's worth asking her to pick out three and see what she comes up with and how difficult it is for her. An interesting exercise.

The great thing about blockchain technology is that every transaction, ie, reply, has an immutable date stamp... so when I come back to this conversation in 7 years after my girl-person finally settles on 3 we'll know exactly how long it took her.

Haha, yeah it seems you know her well. I'm happy to wait it out as I'm curious. See you in seven years. Lol.

At first we completely clashed on music. Sometimes I was sure she was from a different planet. Now after 20 years we find some things we can both listen to. She likes soft jazzy saxophone and alto or soprano. I tend to like baritone and strumming on a guitar. A compromise may be Simon and Garfunkel or Kenny G. Neither of us like it, but it is somewhat bearable.

Yeah, my girl has some things I like that she loathes. It's nice to have some common music though and I think there's always space for differences of opinion in any relationship.

Simon and Garfunkel and Kenny G though? I'll be honest and say I'm not sure I'd survive the experience. Lol.

It's so cool that you two share like that. Couple goals ✔

I hardly share my music with people these days, they all think I'm a bit odd 🤣 or at least my music taste is. For some reason the last few months I've been listening to a lot of heavier stuff and it's been wonderfully empowering, but I like a bit of everything, it depends on my mood, the environment and what's going on at the time I suppose.

We're all different with our musical likes and dislikes, and that's as it should be. I don't like people being judgemental on it either; people don't know what significance a piece of music could have to a person and judging them on it is more a reflection of the lack of quality of the one doing the judging.

Having said that...

I'm a bit odd

Yep, you are. The same as all of us. Lol.

Zac Brown Band is awesome. I sadly don't have any of their music at home, but I always enjoy it when they're available.

Nice that you and the girl-person can do such things together. I can appreciate her "wanting to get it right". It can be a trick question, you know! Much like "what would you like for dinner?"

Lol, yeah man those trick questions are, well, tricky, and can place a fellow in hot water. I call them out now, when she does it to me...like at the shop when she's trying something on and asks my opinion. I'm like, is there a right answer to that question? She hates it when I do that. 🤣

That Warren Zeiders song is a good one. I get to see him in a couple of weeks here. I am really looking forward to it. My wife and I like a lot of the same music, but then there is some stuff I am into that she doesn't really care for. We got to a lot of concerts together. Trainor is a good song writer. I think she had been doing that for a while before she wrote "All about that bass". As she says in one of her songs, she can write a hook!

Seeing him live? That'll be cool. Good music I reckon right?

Meghan Trainor is talented, no doubt. It's really interesting that most of who actually writes the songs are reletive unknowns. I guess they get paid well and not everyone wants the limelight.

Yeah, I have a lot more respect for artists who write their own stuff. Warren is opening for Chris Stapleton and George Strait down in Ohio. We got to see Zach Bryan and Luke Combs at the same event last year. My wife and I also just saw Jason Isbell at a local venue, if you are familiar with him. Great Stuff!

Now I'm really jealous!

We get a few country artists down here but most don't travel this far I guess and our country artists are...well, let's just say I'm not interested. Those you mention are welcome anytime; I'm familiar will all, and listen to them all, other than Jason Isbell but will check him out today.

If you are a fan of Zeiders and Bryan, I think you will like him. There is a good chance you have heard him and just didn't realize it. Plus tons of people have covered his song "Cover Me Up".

I think it's so nice that you can share with someone such everyday things like music, even if it's not their favorite genre, listening to it with the right person makes it a good moment to remember.

This is a great idea man, I will follow suit one of the weeks and get my girl person to do the same. I did it during Covid-19 on a family group on Whatsapp, I asked everyone to pick Three Tunes and added them all to a Spotify playlist, in fact that is an idea for a post too, I might pick three randomly from that playlist some week too. The group is made up of cousins, aunts, brothers, sisters of various ages, so it was a really interesting mix in the end.

The three songs you shared here were all good listens and what I see and hear is that your lady friend and yourself are head over heels, and isn't that something to be very happy about, fair play.

Do you and your partner share a love of music and share tracks between you? Do you have similar tastes in music or do you both like different things?

Ya we share lots of common favourites and often go to Gigs together, but then there are lots of artists that she likes that I have zero interest in and vice versa. We listen to loads of music together though, and it is very seldom that we don't have tunes on in the background when driving, cooking, tidying etc..

Hey mate, thanks for your comment.

I try to present the tracks in an interesting way rather than saying, here's three songs. The post stays on my post feed and therefore I feel responsible for having a certain standard, or at least trying to.

Your WhatsApp idea was a good one, were you surprised about the tracks they shared or was each person predictable?
