Hola a todos los amantes de la música en hive, hoy les compartiré un poco sobre la historia de como conocí a la banda System of a down y como actualmente han influenciado y han ampliado mucho mi gustos musicales ya que gracias a ellos pude descubrir a más bandas realmente buenas y además también hablaré un poco sobre algunas de mis canciones favoritas de ellos. Hello to all the music lovers in hive, today I will share with you a little bit about the story of how I met the band System of a down and how they have influenced and broadened my musical tastes because thanks to them I could discover more really good bands and I will also talk a little bit about some of my favorite songs of theirs. Para darles un poco de contexto a aquellos que no conozcan tanto a esta banda, System Of A Down también conocida como SOAD o simplemente System es una banda estadounidense de género Rock, Nu metal, Heavy Metal y Metal alternativo que fue fundada en el año 1994 y la conforma sus miembros Serj Tankian quien está encargado de la composición, vocalista principal, teclado y ocasionalmente guitarra luego está Daron Malakian quien es también encargado de la composición, es segunda voz principal y guitarrista; Shavo Odadjian con el bajo y por último John Dolmayan en la batería. SOAD cuenta con 5 álbumes que han marcado la historia en el mundo de la música por sus temas que van desde su lucha en contra del maltrato infantil, la violencia, la guerra, las desigualdades sociales, la discriminación entre otros y comenzaron con su primer álbum titulado como la banda "System Of A Down" que salió en el año 1998, luego salió el álbum "Toxicity" en el año 2001, "Steal This Album" en el 2002, "Mezmerize" en el 2005 y por último "Hypnotize" igualmente en el 2005. La banda tuvo una separación en el año 2006 en donde los miembros continuaron trabajando en paralelo por su cuenta, en el año 2010 se anunció su regreso y en el 2011 se celebró su primer concierto de regreso luego de 5 años. Una de las cosas que más destacan de esta banda, a parte de las letras de sus canciones es las voces los miembros principales, las cuales son la voz de Serj y de Daron ya que tienen la capacidad hacer que suene completamente armoniosa y melódica y luego pueden hacer que está sea completamente grabe y fuerte haciendo que sus canciones tengan cambios de tonalidades en sus voces que hacen que junto con el ritmo y los instrumentos creen una variedad de sensaciones auditivas y emociones en quien escucha sus canciones.

To give a little context to those who do not know this band, System Of A Down also known as SOAD or simply System is an American band of Rock, Nu metal, Heavy Metal and Alternative Metal genre that was founded in 1994 and consists of its members Serj Tankian who is in charge of the composition, lead vocalist, keyboard and occasionally guitar then there is Daron Malakian who is also in charge of the composition, is second lead vocalist and guitarist; Shavo Odadjian on bass and finally John Dolmayan on drums. SOAD has 5 albums that have marked the history in the world of music for their themes ranging from their fight against child abuse, violence, war, social inequalities, discrimination among others and began with their first album titled as the band "System Of A Down" which was released in 1998, then came the album "Toxicity" in 2001, "Steal This Album" in 2002, "Mezmerize" in 2005 and finally "Hypnotize" also in 2005. The band had a split in 2006 where the members continued to work in parallel on their own, in 2010 they announced their comeback and in 2011 they held their first comeback concert after 5 years. One of the things that stand out the most about this band, apart from the lyrics of their songs is the voices of the main members, which are the voice of Serj and Daron as they have the ability to make it sound completely harmonious and melodic and then they are able to make it completely grabe and strong making their songs have changes of tonalities in their voices that together with the rhythm and instruments create a variety of auditory sensations and emotions in whoever listens to their songs.

Todos podemos concordar en una cosa en la historia de la humanidad y es que cuando por allá por el 2013/2014 (si no me equivoco) se hizo muy popular la canción "Chop Suey" de su segundo álbum "Toxicity" del 2001 y fue un completo boom dentro de la sociedad ya que fue tomada ni más ni menos por el hecho de que parte de la letra de la canción es cantada por Serj de forma muy rápida y ciertas personas no podían realmente entender que era lo que decir y esto fue tomado como un chiste colectivo o un meme, sin embargo cuando yo escuché esa canción la amé por la versatilidad de los versos y los coros ya que en ciertas partes es muy ruidosa, rápida e incluso tiende a sonar como molesta pero luego en otras partes es suave, se siente casi angelical debido a la voz de Serj y desde ahí yo quedé flechada con la banda y sus canciones sin embargo no vengo a hacer descubrimientos de otras canciones sino hasta ahora a mis 20s en donde luego de conocer a Deftones y a Radiohead es que empiezo a darme un poco de libertad para conocer más de sus canciones y hasta ahora es que veo lo increíbles que son sus canciones no solo por las melodías sino por la letra de sus canciones que en ocasiones parece no tener sentido pero se mezclan espléndidamente con el ritmo y la instrumental, siempre he tenido una debilidad por las bandas musicales ya que puedo experimentar de manera más real los instrumentos usados para sus canciones ya que hay personas que podemos ver y reconocer y no es como los solistas que tienen su banda pero no sabemos nada sobre ellos.

Y aunque muchas personas estén en contra de que las canciones viejas se hagan populares a través de TikTok yo opino que es una forma increíble de generar nuevos fans y poder compartir sus canciones y que sean aún más populares, aunque si es verdad que a veces el escuchar una canción en TikTok mil veces es bastante fastidioso la verdad de todo es que eso hace que generen más vistas y que más personas los busquen en aplicaciones como Spotify. La mayoría de las canciones que actualmente conozco de SOAD es gracias a TikTok ya que mi inicio está muy ligado con la música por los videos a los que les doy like y guardo, por ahora he escuchado al menos 9 de sus canciones variando de álbumes pero el álbum que hasta ahora me ha gustado más (y del cual debo escuchar más de sus canciones) es Toxicity.

We can all agree on one thing in the history of mankind and that is when back in 2013/2014 (if I'm not mistaken) the song "Chop Suey" from their second album "Toxicity" from 2001 became very popular and it was a complete boom within the society as it was taken neither more nor less by the fact that part of the lyrics of the song is sung by Serj in a very fast way and certain people could not really understand what was what to say and this was taken as a collective joke or a meme, however when I listened to that song I loved it because of the versatility of the verses and chorus as in certain parts it is very loud, fast and even tends to sound annoying but then in other parts it is smooth, it feels almost angelic because of Serj's voice and from there I was in love with the band and their songs however I don't come to make discoveries of other songs until now in my 20s where after meeting Deftones and Radiohead is that I start to give me a little freedom to know more of their songs and until now is that I see how amazing their songs are not only for the melodies but for the lyrics of their songs that sometimes seems to make no sense but they blend splendidly with the rhythm and the instrumental, I have always had a weakness for musical bands as I can experience in a more real way the instruments used for their songs as there are people we can see and recognize and it is not like solo artists who have their band but we don't know anything about them.

And although many people are against old songs becoming popular through TikTok I think it's an incredible way to generate new fans and be able to share their songs and make them even more popular, although it is true that sometimes listening to a song on TikTok a thousand times is quite annoying the truth of it all is that it makes them generate more views and more people look for them in applications like Spotify. Most of the songs I currently know of SOAD is thanks to TikTok since my start is very linked to the music because of the videos I like and save, so far I have listened to at least 9 of their songs varying from albums but the album that so far I have liked the most (and of which I must listen to more of their songs) is Toxicity.

TOXICITY BY SYSTEM OF A DOWN

Toxicity fue la segunda canción que escuche de SOAD y la que más me atrapó en cuanto a los cambios de tonos de voz, en la letra y en el ritmo porque es una de esas canciones, y esto es algo que caracteriza mucho al grupo, que te van llevando a una montaña rusa de emociones primero experimentarás la tranquilidad, la armonía e incluso se podría decir que genera una sensación de paz pero luego empiezan las emociones fuertes, irá, desespero, entre otras. No solo me llamo el hecho de que los ritmos variarán dentro de la canción sino su letra un poco singular, una de las cosas que caracterizan a esta banda es el uso de metáforas y es un gran elemento para la creación de canciones ya que evitas la monotonía de explicar algo directamente y pasas a describir situaciones que se relacionen a lo que quieres decir, en este caso muchas partes de esta canción están compuestas por metáforas que representan la desorientación y el desorden en la sociedad también los comportamientos autodestructivos y la avaricia. Igualmente la canción, por un lado, cuenta el como se ha perdido el "silencio sagrado" con respecto a como la actualidad está dominada por la tecnología y poco a poco se pierde la naturaleza en nuestro alrededor. Es una de esas canciones que escucharias en una situación estresante de tu vida, en donde ves que las cosas no tienen sentido, que intentas ver el panorama de otra manera pero que sientes que estás atrapado, atrapado en la monotonía y en la conformidad y ésta canción te hace querer salir de ella y hacer algo diferente.

Toxicity was the second song I listened to by SOAD and the one that caught me the most in terms of the changes in voice tones, lyrics and rhythm because it is one of those songs, and this is something that characterizes the band, that takes you on a roller coaster of emotions, first you will experience tranquility, harmony and you could even say that it generates a sense of peace but then the strong emotions begin, you will go, despair, among others. One of the things that characterize this band is the use of metaphors and it is a great element for the creation of songs since you avoid the monotony of explaining something directly and go on to describe situations that relate to what you want to say, in this case many parts of this song are composed of metaphors that represent the disorientation and disorder in society also self-destructive behaviors and greed. Likewise the song, on the one hand, tells the story of how the "sacred silence" has been lost with respect to how today is dominated by technology and little by little nature is lost around us. It is one of those songs that you would listen to in a stressful situation in your life, where you see that things don't make sense, that you try to see the big picture in a different way but you feel that you are trapped, trapped in monotony and conformity and this song makes you want to get out of it and do something different.

Recientemente he estado escuchando algunas otras de sus canciones pero aún así nunca podré superar las primeras que escuché las cuales fueron "Chop Suey", "Toxicity" y "B.Y.O.B" las cuales tienen algunos elementos en común como lo son los cambios de ritmos en diferentes versos ya que en ocasiones puede sonar una melodía un tanto triste pero luego va a sonar una en la que se puede sentir la rabia a través de las voces o incluso la ironía como lo es con "B.Y.O.B" la cuál tiene muchas partes en las que la voz del cantante principal tiende a sonar con bastante ironía e incluso con algo de diversión. Escucharlos me ha abierto a un mundo de nuevos artistas por escuchar como lo son Blur, Muse, Slipknot e incluso Red Hot Chili Peppers los cuales tienen un poco de parecido con SOAD pero los primeros son más de canciones calmadas y un poco más suaves.

Recently I have been listening to some of their other songs but still I will never get over the first ones I heard which were "Chop Suey", "Toxicity" and "B.Y.O. B" which have some common elements such as the changing rhythms in different verses.B" which have some elements in common such as the changes of rhythms in different verses since sometimes a sad melody can sound a bit sad but then it will sound one in which you can feel the rage through the voices or even the irony as it is with "B.Y.O.B" which has many parts in which the lead singer's voice tends to sound quite ironic and even with some fun. Listening to them has opened me up to a world of new artists to listen to such as Blur, Muse, Slipknot and even Red Hot Chili Peppers which have a bit of similarity to SOAD but the former are more of calm and a bit softer songs.

Me gustaron mucho sus canciones y su estilo musical ya que creo que al estar en los 20s siempre existe esa necesidad de no cumplir con las reglas, de querer expresar nuestras opiniones e ideales y ésta banda tiene muchas opiniones por dar y que necesitan ser escuchadas, siendo de una situación que vivieron en aquellos años en donde querían demostrar sus ideales a través de sus canciones ruidosas para poder hacerse escuchar y mostrar una realidad sobre varias situaciones alarmantes. Y creo que por esa misma razón he estado escuchandolos mucho por el hecho de estar viviendo actualmente muchas situaciones que a mis ojos parecen no tener soluciones y es una forma de conseguir una especie de apoyo por así decirlo para poder enfrentar y llevar de otra manera estos conflictos y es algo que también va mucho con lo que era la banda en el tiempo de creación de sus canciones ya que ellos también estarían entre los 20s y 30s y estarían lidiando con sus propios problemas pero que a través de la música pudieron superar y resolver y eso es algo que hace que la música sea tan importante en la vida de las personas, porque no solo es el hablar y dar un mensaje, hacerte conocer o simplemente hacerte famoso sino el como tu música puede ser el salvavidas de otras personas que también están viviendo conflictos en sus vidas, cómo estás pueden ser incluso el propulsor que los hará avanzar y poder vencer todos sus problemas.

I really liked their songs and their musical style because I think that being in the 20s there is always that need to not comply with the rules, to want to express our opinions and ideals and this band has many opinions to give and that need to be heard, being from a situation they lived in those years where they wanted to demonstrate their ideals through their loud songs in order to be heard and show a reality about several alarming situations. And I think that for that same reason I have been listening to them a lot because I am currently living many situations that in my eyes seem to have no solutions and it is a way to get a kind of support so to speak to be able to face and carry these conflicts in another way and it is something that also goes a lot with what the band was at the time of creation of their songs since they would also be between the 20s and 30s and would be dealing with their own problems but that through music they could overcome and solve and that is something that makes music so important in people's lives, because it's not just about talking and giving a message, making yourself known or just making yourself famous but how your music can be the lifeline for other people who are also living conflicts in their lives, how you can even be the propellant that will make them move forward and be able to overcome all their problems.

En mi opinión System Of A Down es una banda que se caracteriza por sus controversiales letras y ritmos, siendo de género Rock, Nu metal y Metal alternativo pero que se destaca por ser única en cuanto al tipo de voz del vocalista, la perspectiva de sus ideales y opiniones que reflejan a través de sus canciones y sus estilos únicos y llamativos con los cuales representan lo que son, una banda que hasta el momento me encanta y que espero muy pronto poder seguir conociendo más sobre sus canciones y sobre su recorrido en la historia musical. No todo el mundo escucharía a ésta banda pero los que si podrán ver el poder que tienen, el talento y lo apasionados que son con la música.

In my opinion System Of A Down is a band that is characterized by its controversial lyrics and rhythms, being of Rock, Nu metal and Alternative Metal genre but that stands out for being unique in terms of the type of voice of the vocalist, the perspective of their ideals and opinions that reflect through their songs and their unique and striking styles with which they represent what they are, a band that so far I love and I hope very soon to continue learning more about their songs and about their journey in musical history. Not everyone would listen to this band but those that do will be able to see the power they have, the talent and how passionate they are about music.
