Music has always been a constant in my life. Although nowadays I don't practice as much as I should, it has always been present in my day to day life, whether I listen to it at work, at home or when I practice one of my instruments.

Certainly music is magical and allows us all to enjoy life a little more. Of course, there are many types of music and a lot more instruments. However, today I am going to tell you briefly about the influence of popular music in my life, as I was meditating on this matter when I visited a musical instrument store during my stay in Caracas.

In San Felipe, where I come from, there are not many such stores; in fact, the only one there is does not have too many instruments in good condition, nowadays it is dedicated to sell more sporting goods than anything else. So going into this store, in a way, was a visit to my love for stringed instruments, such as the cuatro and the guitar.

You see, from a young age I always loved drums, it was the simplest way for a kid to make "music", although it was very easy for me to start getting into the rhythm of the drums and playing in a more complex way. In fact, this is what motivated my mom to enroll me in music at a young age.

There I had to choose an instrument, so I went for the instrument that many kids go for, the cuatro. This is a traditional Venezuelan stringed instrument. It was very easy for me to learn to play with this instrument, because I felt comfortable with it.

As I got older, I was given the opportunity to practice another instrument when I was moved from school to a conservatory, there I chose the guitar and although I did like the instrument, I did not enjoy learning to play it very much; in fact, today I do not practice much with the guitar, it is not an instrument I feel comfortable with, very different from what happens with the Cuatro.

Of course, even when I was practicing guitar I was not too much inclined to the classical songs of the instrument, no; on the contrary, I liked to practice more that style of popular music that I had practiced so much with the other four-stringed instrument. Well-known songs like Moliendo Café, Río Yurubí, Morir es nacer or Alma llanera were the ones I most enjoyed practicing, both on one instrument and the other.

Practicing so much this style of music led me to feel very attached to the sung versions of these songs, even today in my playlist there are always songs like Pasillaneando, because they were songs that marked my childhood and influenced my current musical tastes.

I recently had the privilege of having a Cuatro in my house again, as I borrowed one with which I have been practicing a lot, since mine was damaged. Visiting this store and seeing so many instruments that I like in one place was just great. I felt like when I was a kid and I walked into a toy store with all kinds of toys, I felt the same way....

As you can see, music and the instruments themselves can evoke emotions and feelings in us, because music is made with the heart and listened with the soul, so it is the least it can generate in us, even just by seeing the instruments that produce it...

La música siempre ha sido una constante en mi vida. Aunque hoy en día no practico tanto como debería, siempre ha estado presenten en mi día a día, ya sea mientras la escucho en el trabajo, en casa o cuando practico alguno de mis instrumentos.

Ciertamente la música es mágica y nos permite a todos disfrutar un poco más de la vida. Claro, existen muchos tipos de música y un montón más de instrumentos. Sin embargo, hoy voy a contarles brevemente sobre la influencia de la música popular en mi vida, pues estuve meditando sobre este asunto cuando visité una tienda de instrumentos musicales durante mi estadía en Caracas.

En San Felipe, de donde vengo, no hay muchas tiendas así; de hecho, la única que hay no tiene demasiados instrumentos en buen estado, hoy en día se dedica a vender más artículos deportivos que cualquier otra cosa. Así que entrar a esta tienda, en cierta forma fue una visita a mi amor por los instrumentos de cuerda, tales como el cuatro y la guitarra.

Verán, desde pequeño siempre me gustaron los tambores, era la manera más sencilla para un niño de hacer "música", aunque para mi fue muy fácil empezar a tomarle ritmo a los tambores y tocar de manera más compleja. De hecho, esto fue lo que motivó a mi mamá a inscribirme en música desde pequeño.

Allí debía escoger un instrumento, así que me decanté por el instrumento por el que muchos niños suelen ir, el cuatro. Este es un instrumento de cuerdas tradicional de Venezuela. Me fue muy fácil aprender a tocar con este instrumento, porque me sentía cómodo con él.

Ya conforme iba creciendo, me dieron la oportunidad de practicar otro instrumento cuando me cambiaron de escuela a un conservatorio, ahí elegí la guitarra y aunque sí me gustaba el instrumento, no disfruté mucho aprender a tocarlo; de hecho, hoy por hoy no practico demasiado con la guitarra, no es un instrumento con el que me sienta cómodo, muy distinto como me pasa con el Cuatro.

Claro, incluso cuando practicaba guitarra no me inclinaba demasiado a las canciones clásicas del instrumento, no; por el contario, me gustaba practicar más ese estilo de música popular que tanto había practicado con el otro instrumento de cuatro cuerdas. Canciones conocidísimas como Moliendo Café, Río Yurubí, Morir es nacer o Alma llanera eran las que más me gustaban practicar, tanto en un instrumento como en el otro.

Practicar tanto este estilo de música me llevó a sentir mucho apego por las versiones cantadas de estas canciones, incluso hoy en día en mis playlist siempre suelen estar canciones como Pasillaneando, pues fueron canciones que me marcaron mi infancia y sí que influyeron en mis gustos musicales actuales.

Hace poco tuve el privilegio de volver a tener un Cuatro en mi casa, pues me prestaron uno con el que he estado practicando bastante, pues el mío se dañó. Visitar esta tienda y ver tantos instrumentos que me gustan en un mismo lugar, fue simplemente genial. Me sentí como cuando era un niño y entraba en una juguetería con todo tipo de juguetes, así mismo me sentí...

Como ven, la música y los propios instrumentos en sí pueden evocar emociones y sentimientos en nosotros, pues la música se hace con el corazón y se escucha con el alma, así que es lo menos que puede generar en nosotros, incluso con solo ver los instrumentos que la producen...
