My All Time Favorite Songs

My favorite song’, well I have some songs that interest me, but I'm usually fascinated with cool gentle, and soft music. I think Ed Sheeran is my favorite artist of all time, he is into pop music, I practically love all of his songs but for the purpose of this prompt, I'll single out one.

The song I adore the most by Ed Sheeran is ‘Supermarket Flower’, I hear that the song was a tribute to his grandmother when she died. The first time I heard this song, it just struck a chord in my heart, I couldn’t get enough of it, I literally song it the whole of that day, I had to go look it up and download it, this was around 2017, but it still soothes me whenever I hear it.

I learned all the lyrics and could sing it in less than two days, that was how much the song thrilled me. The chorus talks about how he felt, his mum was always like an angel to him, she would hold him up whenever he was down, I could relate so much to these lines because I also had lost a loved one, a mum to be precise who was all these and more to me.

So, I'll sing Hallelujah
You were an angel in the shape of my mum
When I fell down, you'd be there holding me up

It also talked about how God would welcome his ma when she gets to heaven, saying she was home. For us children of God, going to heaven (our eternal home) is more like the goal for us, and having God welcome us back home is like the icing on the cake, although not at an early age.

Spread your wings as you go
And when God takes you back, we'll say Hallelujah
You're home

This song is a very emotional one, you can't listen to it and not feel a wave of empathy for the songwriter or for yourself if you have lost a loved one. The melody of the song is as simple as it can get, allowing the listener to feel the wonderful vocals of Ed Sheeran and also feel the emotions with him.

Overall, it’s a song that resonates with anyone who has lost a loved one at one point or the other in their lives.

Another of my all-time favorite song is ‘Wait for Me’ by Johnny Drille. It talks about a man asking his lover to wait for him while he embarks on a temporary journey and promises to come back. He speaks from his heart to her that he doesn’t know what the future holds, but he still wants to spend that future with her.

He describes her as his prize, that for her, he doesn’t mind running to the finish line if she is ready to wait for him. This song speaks mostly to lovers who have at one time or another faced separation and had to be in different locations, leading to a long-distance relationship.

‘I’m a lover of love’ hence the reason why I love this song.
So this is my response to the HiveGhana prompt about my favorite song.

Thank you for stopping by 💕
