Music, inspiration for life carved in wood. [ENG-ESP]

"Life without music would be a mistake," the philosopher Nietzsche once said, and I think he was quite right. Since the beginning of civilization, music has accompanied humanity in all its advancements and has always been recorded in history through painting and symbols. With this in mind, I had the idea of ​​making a wooden necklace that would represent the inspiration that music inspires in me, whether for work or simply to reflect and relax, and I couldn't find anything better than the treble clef. About this beautiful symbol, it can be said that Western music was notated using letters of the alphabet to represent the notes. The note "sol" was represented by the letter "G." Over time, these letters began to become stylized and took on more cursive forms to facilitate handwriting, leaving us with this beautiful symbol found on all sheet music. I made the treble clef out of pine wood, working it with various blades to give it that finish. I hope you like it.

Con esto en mente fue que tuve la idea de hacer un collar tallado en madera que representara la inspiración que causa en mi la música, ya sea para trabajar o para simplemente reflexionar y relajarme, y no encontré nada mejor que la clave de Sol. Acerca de este bello símbolo puedo se dice que la música occidental se anotaba utilizando letras del alfabeto para representar las notas. La nota "sol" se representaba con la letra "G", con el tiempo, estas letras comenzaron a estilizarse y a adoptar formas más cursivas para facilitar la escritura a mano, dejándonos este bello símbolo que se encuentra en todas las partituras. He realizado la Clave de Sol en madera de pino, trabajándola con diversas cuchillas para darle ese acabado, espero que les guste.

As I mentioned at the beginning, I used pine wood for this piece. Mahogany is out of stock, and I've had a hard time finding that type of wood. However, it still looks very nice. So I cut the piece I'd like to use, not too thick to get the shape right. After cutting and cleaning it, I proceeded to sketch the drawing, which I'll then carve with the blades.

Como mencióné al principio, utilicé para esta pieza madera de Pino, la madera color caoba ya llegó a su fin y me ha costado encontrar ese tipo de madera. sin embargo con esta también se ve muy bonita. Así que recorté la pieza a utilizar, no muy gruesa para hacer bien la forma, mientras que luego de cortada y limpiada procedí a hacer el boceto del dibujo que luego voy a ir tallando con las cuchillas.

To save time, I drew lines around the drawing to guide me and cut out all the excess wood using a saw. This way, it will be easier to carve the edges of the piece since they are closer together. To carve the edges, I use a stationery knife since it has a larger blade, and for the interior shapes, I'll use the smaller blades.

Para ahorrar tiempo dibujé unas líneas alrededor del dibujo para así guiarme y cortar todo el espacio de madera que sobra utilizando una sierra. De esa manera quedará más fácil tallar los bordes de la pieza ya que se encuentran más cerca. Para tallar los bordes utilizo un cúter de papelería que la hoja es más grande, y para las formas interiores utilizaré las cuchillas más pequeñas.

I started at the edges, gradually cutting and removing the wood along the lines of the drawing. Using the box cutter as I mentioned earlier, I removed as much wood as possible, avoiding the center of the piece.

Comencé por los bordes, poco a poco cortando y quitando la madera siguiendo la línea del dibujo. Utilizando el cúter como mencioné anteriormente. Retiro la mayor cantidad de madera, sin intervenir en la parte central de la pieza.

After finishing the edges, I move on to the bottom. As you can see, I didn't cut the entire edge, but rather left some spaces with some wood because I needed it as a base to maintain the wood's stability and prevent it from breaking. Often, when carving in the center of the wood, it loses strength and breaks easily, so it needs something to help it lose weight from the center. So, using the small blades, I can now begin to shape the joints that form this symbol.

Luego de terminar con los bordes voy hacia la parte inferior. Como pueden observar no corté todo el borde, sino que dejé algunos espacios con algo de madera porque lo necesitaba como base para mentener la estabilidad de la madera y así no se rompiera. Muchas veces cuando se talla en el centro de la madera esta pierde fuerza y se rompe con facilidad, así que necesita algo que la ayude a perder peso desde el centro. Así que utilizando las cuchillas pequeñas puedo ya comenzar a darle forma en las uniones que forman este símbolo.

Next, I carve the remaining spaces until the interior of the piece is complete. Once this is done, I remove the wood I had previously used as a support and you can see how the treble clef looks.

A continuación, tallo los espacios restantes hasta completar el interior de la pieza. Una vez hecho esto, retiro la madera que había usado como soporte y pueden ver cómo queda la clave de sol.

But it doesn't end there. In the next step, I'll shape the edges so the piece isn't flat but rather has a relief that gives the impression that one piece is on top of the other. So, I draw lines at the joints of the figure to eliminate that gap. After that, I begin polishing and cleaning all the wood with sandpaper, finishing with a coat of varnish. And that's how our musical symbol looks.

Pero todo no termina ahí, en el siguiente paso le voy a dar forma a los bordes para que la pieza no quede plana sino con un relieve que se la sensación de que la masera esta por encima de la otra. Así que en las uniones de la igura dibujo líneas para retirar ese espacio. Después de eso comienzo a pulir y limpiar toda la madera con una lija para finalizar con un baño de barníz. Y así ha quedado nuestro símbolo musical.
